This isn't record inflation of course, even for just the US in history.

I don't think continuing to buy oil from Russia is a good idea if reasonable alternatives are available.

It does not have to be a record for folks to be pissed about it

and no we should not have to but oil from anyone

we have the ability to be self sustaining when it comes to energy

all it takes is better leadership

Supply and demand. US/EU are already suffering though record inflation and getting HAMMERED by gas, food, electric, and heating price increases. This will only make it worse. Rapid oil price increase are BY FAR THE SINGLE LARGEST drivers of inflation. It's not even f**king close. You want inflation to go down....oil prices have to go down. This is only going to make them go up.
I was responding to this assertion.  And of course, if the US were entirely independent of global oil, we'd still be paying global prices, or very close to them.  It's not as if somehow domestically produced oil would be much cheaper than oil from Canada or Saudi Arabia.  Brent and West Texas prices pretty much coincide.  More production, from anywhere, would ease the supply/demand imbalance (as would a steep recession).

Speaking of traveling, we're off to CA Friday for six days.  I'm not at all anxious to go, but whatever.  My wife thinks we'll get upgraded to first, but the plane is almost full it looks to me.

I'll get a look at CA gas prices, I'm sure.

I dont think so

Price of gasoline in Saudi Aribia right now is $2.30/gal

so someone needs to tell Saudi Arabia they need to raise their prices

Saudi Arabia obviously subsidizes their gasoline pricing.  We would simply NOT be paying any less if we didn't import oil ourselves with the current supply/demand situation globally.  Now, if the US produced a lot more oil, it would influence that ratio, some.

yes they can do that cause the oil production is done by a company government owned

maybe we ought to consider this especially because a lot of oil comes off government land

This only works for an informed populace.  We are not informed.  We're sprayed with 17 different takes on each issue, and we believe the one we want to believe.

I'm going out to California for a few days.  Spending some time with my cancer-ridden friend while he gets radiation treatment before driving him home back to Las Vegas.
Thanks for asking.

That Virginia Tech player was found "not guilty" of his murder charges stemming from last summer.

Boy that was a weird case.
