But that is not the point. The point is that some people want to claim that a person is an adult at the age of 18 yet deny them basic rights and privilages aforded to adults. We can't have it both ways.
I disagree

You can have it both ways

The law is not always consistent with all elements

If the will of the people want a gun owner to be 21 but will allow other things at 18 then so be it

If you already agree driving should be conferred to folks under 21, then the camel's nose is under the tent.

So, if you are 18 and have gone through basic training, you are considered an adult.

You will be able to serve, vote, buy booze, buy guns.

If you have not had basic training, it's 21 for all of that privilege, minus the serving, of course.

18 for driving, except for farm vehicles.

Anyone can fly a plane or helicopter as long as there's a licensed pilot in the cockpit to take control if need be. However, you must be 16 years old before you're able to take a solo flight and 17 years old before you can earn a private pilot's license.

Teenage Student Pilot Killed in Wisconsin Training Flight - Brightgram
Sounds like a probable stall incident on attempting a landing.  He was 18.

You can solo with as little as ten hours of dual training.

Basic training ain't some magic bullet.  Sure, they're more mature as they've been through something and have learned expectations and responsibility and they've damn sure learned work...

But they're also programmed in a certain code.

I've never drank harder, worked harder, lived harder, and loved every second of it as I did in the four years following bootcamp.  First term Marines are known for good reason to be the glorious bastards they are.

It's easy to forget they are programmed.  I turn 50 soon, and to this day a certain command issued in a certain way gets a predictable response from me.  Not near as instant to react to it, but just as instant to recognize it.

It's about control.  Within the ranks that control is crucial to mission accomplishment, and mission accomplishment is the absolute priority of any Marine no matter the rank.  So is responding and adhering to recognized authority.

It isn't until much later in life a person grasps what they've done at the behest of authority and by authority with no skin in the game and often for purposes that were less than respectable..... this is a recent issue, though, and goes back to "last 50 years" sentiment.  I dont think it was a thing prior to Korean War.

A matter of fact, any DI will tell you third phase recruits are uncontrollable and dangerous except for the fact they THINK they're operating under strict guidance.  Sorta like an elephant tied to a post with twine.  This is the condition wanted in combat situations- and can be achieved quickly with the right motivators and because of programming.

One sliver might be eliminating first person shooter video games on all platforms such as Call of Duty, Halo, Grand Theft Auto and countless others..  And roll back music, TV, movie, and video language and violence standards to those of say 1960.  Maybe wave a magic wand and repair the US family.

you're scapegoating entertainment and assigning blame where it not belong. parents need to TAKE RESPONSIBILITY and be better parents.

there's a problem in the home. there is a problem with parenting. and that has absolutely nothing to do with tv, movies, video games, or language.

I believe a lot of the problems we have today as a society are the fault of capitalism- or rather crony capitalism I should say- this corrupt bastardized version of the system in which we've seen economic out-pout and productivity skyrocket yet working people and the middle class have been left behind and have been systemically eroded- while the top fraction of a percent gain more and more wealth. This has lead to BOTH parents having to have to work just to make ends meet. When both parents work- children tend to get- you know- neglected. Back in the day of which you speak when we actually had a functioning labor movement and there were strict governmental controls on big corporations and the system was designed for high employment and high livable wage- a man could afford to be the bread winner and only one with a job- and the woman could stay with her children in the home- where she belongs.

You want to blame something- blame this bastardized crony capitalist fascist state in which we live and blame the feminist movement as well a little bit. Kids need their mothers in the home tending to them. And they need their father out making ends meet. A lot of the problems we have also have to do with dead beat dads. How many inner cities or redneck rural areas are riddled with guys who have half a dozen or more kids with multiple women and they don't take care of any of them?  There are a lot of shitty people out there that probably should never be parents in the first place. Unfortunately there isn't anything anyone can do about that.

You get a Yuengling Mdot this hammers home the real problem. But shit TV viewing also can be problematic as you say with both parents working. Two childhood friends of mine got married raised 3 daughters all college grads. They never had cable until all 3 graduated HS.The only times maybe those kids heard profanities is when the BROWNS were playing. All have came out responsable adults. Anything from Hollywood/New York/Washington can make it hard on decent parenting

The key to good parenting is to have boundaries which are as large as possible but still serve to correct unacceptable behavior

I dont agree with banning video games or cable TV

The house my kids grew up in allowed it within reason

I dont think shooter games create serial killers

My kids played every video game available and both went on to very successful careers as one is a lawyer and the other is a CPA

The key is both parents need to be there when needed

i love how my previous point was ignored just like it is in society....

mind altering pharmaceuticals, prescribed by a doctor, are a factor in almost every one of these incidents.  it is the exception for it not to be.

Was that this case for this last incident?
