To be fair, it's not the role of the IRS to change the tax code or argue how it should be changed (beyond giving advice if asked).

Most favor a simpler tax code, probably nearly all, but of course each has their own version of simplification.  And Congress in general will prefer a complex code into which they can "sneak" special provisions to encourage things like purchases of EVs and tax credits for doing this or that.

Judge’s ‘textualist’ ruling on airline mask mandate sparks backlash  | The Hill
Judge’s ‘textualist’ ruling on airline mask mandate sparks backlash  | The Hill

The ruling appears to hinge largely on what the word "sanitation" means.

I never claimed that the IRS could change tax code, I simply stated that they could argue for it. And you are correct, Congress likes the complex code as it allows them to push their agendas whatever they may be.

This year business cost at restaurants was 100% deductible.

Do you not think I pulled my credit card statements and recalled discussions of business at every charge of a restaurant?

Because.... I did....

Because... eff them.

I dont mind paying taxes at all... but when my taxes are 150 to 175 pages every single year, there is a serious problem.  And yes, my taxes are that "complete" (to use the operative word in the findings of my last audit), and because... eff them, that's why.

If the bastards offer $24.5k  for "married filing jointly" then there is at least $35k to be had conservatively itemizing.  And you're damn straight- I itemize like a mofo- because (wanna guess why?)...

I logged on to my health insurance plan stuff today and was surprised to see it had ended 12/31/2021.  Huh, was still paying for it.

So, I go to CHAT and get someone who says "Yup, coverage was dropped, you have to call your employer."

I have no phone number for that, so she gives me one she thinks might work.  I call, and listen to an endless menu of options, blah blah blah, none of them right, finally get a real person who figures out they dropped me and added me to some other plan.

That led to more teeth gnashing and run about, if I got a letter I threw it out as tripe.  Finally I manage to log onto the new site and do have coverage, so I suppose it ended well, after a lot of burfle I dislike.

Survey: Global investors rank Atlanta No. 2 target for real estate investment | Urbanize Atlanta

Some place called Austin heads the list, a lot of folks moving there.

I always have been very conservative on my tax return.  Im not saying I think thats for everyone.  I just did not want to have to deal with the IRS in an audit.

I represented one of my ex bosses one time when the IRS sent him notice they were going to conduct a 'Line Audit' on him.  Which means they make you support every line on your return.  OH joy.  They even make you explain every item that hits your 12 months of bank statements.  Good news though he came out clean except for not declaring a gun he sold for $500.  So they zapped him for that but nothing else.  Made me look pretty good so I was happy.

Anyway I decided a long time ago to be on the concervative side and so far it has served me well.
They won't let me give blood anymore. The burnt orange color scares the hell out of the doctors.
