What makes it all the more grim if rising poverty scales America back into “second world” living is the higher rates of 1) violent crime in American cities, 2) household debt, and 3) drug abuse – prescription and street drugs alike. I find myself get bummed by how the lack vision amongst much of the younger generation can understandably be interpretable as the prevalent lack of vision in the future America itself.
You're entire post is tremendous. A couple points really stuck out to me:  the wealth gap is widening tremendously. The amount of consumer debt people are taking on is eye-opening and scary. An additional layer to that is the balances of student loan debt in comparison to the annual income in so many cases makes no sense. People are taking on student loan debt balances that are never justified by their income level. Secondly, the level of auto loans in comparison to income levels is also scary. Not to mention 84 month auto loans becoming far more commonplace.

I'll say this about the younger generation. There are two types of younger person that walks into my business looking for a employment - a) those that either think everything will be easy or they're entitled to an easier path of success or b) those that still understand to have a shot to elevate their own potential past their heirs potential, they need to sacrifice, take chances and work harder than their peers. Over the last 2 years, I've seen more in the B category walk in my doors than I expected.

Agreed.
Running for congress is something people do to make a lot of money, gain some notoriety (if even just locally), and to grandstand.  It's gross.

Ahh. That’s disappointing. She can be informative on some FBI mechanics stuff.

The cotton-candy-ization of our political consumption is also unfortunate, but way of the world, I suppose.

To a degree, I agree with this. But we're living in such a broken-brain era, it makes hardly more than a ripple.

Think about it. This woman in just about every sense does not matter. And she fired off a dumb tweet, which is hardly a declaration of much. And I'd bet you there are 10s of websites that wrote up basically the same thing as that article, vying for many thousands of views  for that garbled culture war nonsense. And that's all from the side we're not talking about. Our brains are broken all around.

Shoot, look at big chunks of this thread. If anything, saying that experience broke their brains is giving far, far too much credit to those brains before. (Not to mention the general broken brain-ness of making that fella the leader of the free world with those codes and such. Odd times we live in)

There is no fixing news/journalism without removing the money/eyeballs/clicks aspect of it.

The news has to become a public work or something - a donation of time/resources maybe - anything but what it's become.  We're literally in a post-truth era now.

NPR is not free from agendas and partisan hackery.  So that's clearly not the answer.
