it's as if perpetual growth/greatness isn't realistic or something.  Weird.

nope. that's something that takes effort and leadership to maintain greatness or grow. things that cities like NYC and LA/SF and states like NY/CA lack. Cuomo and that fake Italian piece of sh*t Warren Wilhelm set that city back a decade, maybe forever.

California had net negative migration for the first time ever since 1850- you know- it's founding.

Who voted those leaders into place?

It's weird that some places didn't do well during unprecedented times.

When you have people leaving one place, they have to go somewhere.  Usually with better weather.

And I'd be careful with that statement, Thanos.  You know, considering all the deaths.

So you’re saying if a metro shrinks, that’s a sign it’s failing in general as a place?

I wake up every morning hoping my city and region would show such signs of  "failing in general as a place."

When I went to school in Austin 1967 to 1971 it had a population under 300,000

Today its over 2,000,000

Its a much different place

Yeah I've lived in Austin for my entire life, and it has changed a lot in my lifetime.

Some changes are bad. Some are good.  That's the way it goes.  Same is true of Houston and Dallas and any other major city experiencing growth, but I've found that Austin is a special case among UT grads because so many of them came here from elsewhere, spent a brief, fun and carefree part of their life here, and then moved on.  They seem to think that it should remain frozen in time for whatever period precisely matches their undergraduate years, but of course that's not how it works.

Ayway, at work, people marvel when I tell them I'm a native.

My daughter has a degree from UT she was a Communications major and went on to graduated from UT Law so Ive been witness to the changes that have taken place.

There will always be a special place in my heart for that town.

Yup.  I was born and raised in Austin, graduated summa cum laude from an Austin public high school, got a full scholarship as a National Merit Scholar to earn my undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from UT, worked in Austin as an EE for about a decade, got my MBA from McCombs School of Business at UT-Austin, and continued to live in Austin after that, working at two of the world's largest manufacturers of semiconductors, and computing equipment.

I'm not attempting to make it a competition, I just have my own perspective about the evolution/growth/change of the city, based on my 50 years of living here, non-stop.

In general I find UT grads who moved away, to be the most annoying, regarding how "bad" it has become here.  Universally, I recognize that they are wise and correct, Austin is terrible now, and they should continue to stay away.
