I've mentioned before the Costco Kirkland Cab box wine, it's amazing for the price, $13 for 3 L around here.

We're headed out for a short vacation to see two botanical gardens, one in Gainesville and the other in Athens, where we'll overnight.  I haven't stayed ON in Athens since I left.  I'll show the wife around a bit, though she's been there before, to a game even.

She doesn't quite have the rules down.  Neither do I.  Are they going to the DH now?

Cadillac Blackwing v Shelby GT 500 in an interesting type of race.

Got mine Wednesday.  Been having some serious fun on the nearby remote roads in “ Mexico”.

That's a bad ass car you got there.

The GT500 might be the fastest car on a track for anywhere near the money, currently.

I've found that pretty much anything from Costco's Kirkland brand is a f***king excellent, high quality product. I've never bought something Kirkland brand that wasn't top notch, especially for the price.

The Kirkland box chardonnay is not to my liking.  But to get something decent costs more of course.

It's quaffable but not transcendent.

Yeah, quite good. Their chardonnay and pinot grigio are also good. I think we have a box of the cab that probably needs to get consumed soon...

And the boxes are great because they don't go bad once "opened". Since they're in a sealed bag that doesn't take on air, they don't get oxidized or spoiled. So a glass at a time over a week or more is fine.

That said, I'm generally picking beer over cab or pinot grigio, and I don't really like chard all that much. I keep my wife well stocked with chard from a BevMo house brand called Unruly (13.95 but it's on their 5c wine sale, so works out to $7/bottle) that she likes. We have a lot of low to mid price bottles in rotation for when she's drinking wine and I'm drinking beer, which is most of the time.

Most of what we bought from Paso will only be opened when we're cooking something awesome and want a nice bottle of wine to go with it, in which case I'll do wine instead of beer.

Both chardonnay and pinot noir "benefit" a lot from paying more, in my opinion.  I can better tolerate an inexpensive merlot or cab.  But few of us are able to crack open a hundred dollar pinot on a whim.  I had some DRCs way way back but I had not developed a taste for pinot at that point.  They get insanely pricey of course.

My issue with Chard is that when you start getting into big, buttery chard, I'm out. Which IMHO is what happens when the price point goes up.

For a white wine I prefer something more crisp and clean.

Same for me with cab. When you get a big, oaky, Napa cab, it's just not my thing. I love some good zin, or syrah, but the big cabs that everyone else oohs and aahs over aren't my style.

You can't beat the Kirkland for the price, but they are severe outliers for spin rate. That can rob distance for most players--albeit can be helpful for a player without a lot of speed who needs the spin to keep the ball in the air with the driver.

I was playing Kirkland for a while but after that ball test came out, switched to the Snell MTB-X. It's a more middle-of-the-road ball which I think works well since my swing is pretty middle-of-the-road regarding speed (~100mph driver). It's a DTC ball that you can get for $31/doz in bulk, and it comes in yellow, which is easy to see. I still get more than enough spin off the irons to stop it on the greens I play.
