The gold thing is interesting, the price hasn't really moved much.  I know folks have been hawking gold since 2009 as if it's going to make you rich.  Obviously it can't.  It could keep you from being poor.

Over the past five years, gold is up about 34% in dollar value, which isn't bad, but the S&P500 has nearly doubled.

Past performance of course.

One thing my money manager did when he took over my IRA was ditch the gold in 2012 when I retired.  I asked why, it turns out he was right to do so.  I didn't have much, maybe 2% of the portfolio.  I bought some GOLD back five years ago or so, not much, but some, it hasn't really done that well.

Since gold bullion is heavy stuff, we tend not to transport it, we create paper that indicates you own gold in some vault somewhere.

Being a drug addict is not really the news here.

For some to have used drugs is not the story here, at all.  It's ancillary.

I disagree, strongly, it's an aside, peripheral, one could eliminate the drug part of this and still have a significant story.

The STORY here is about corruption, not drug use, and a second story is about suppression of the story.  Somewhere down the line maybe his drug use comes into play, but it's really peripheral. 

You can disagree or not, doesn't change the very real fact that most of what people say about this is mean things about his drug use, and then there is some stuff about the suppression of the story, and then there is something about corruption that is usually left very undefined. 

The news about the child of a President using drugs is salacious perhaps, but compared with the news of a President "on the take", it's insignificant.

Ten percent for the Big Guy. 

The news about how the laptop story was suppressed is also far more interesting.

if this had been Trump Jr there would have been headlines for years concerning it

a special prosecutor would have been appointed to investigate it
