The gold thing is interesting, the price hasn't really moved much.  I know folks have been hawking gold since 2009 as if it's going to make you rich.  Obviously it can't.  It could keep you from being poor.

Over the past five years, gold is up about 34% in dollar value, which isn't bad, but the S&P500 has nearly doubled.

Past performance of course.

One thing my money manager did when he took over my IRA was ditch the gold in 2012 when I retired.  I asked why, it turns out he was right to do so.  I didn't have much, maybe 2% of the portfolio.  I bought some GOLD back five years ago or so, not much, but some, it hasn't really done that well.

Since gold bullion is heavy stuff, we tend not to transport it, we create paper that indicates you own gold in some vault somewhere.

Then later paper indicates you can exchange it for silver, then later, it means you can use it to buy a Fiat.  That part always confused me, why Fiats?

Well, if the president's kid being a drug addict was a big problem, we would be all out of presidents
Presidents with a druggie kid is a short list. Seems to me the W girls liked to party a bit. Never heard anything about the kids of others.

Presidents with an addict, crackhead, hooker-obsessed, and corrupt kid is a list of one.

Good thing that the kid the smartest man ever!!

Being a drug addict is not really the news here.

LOL. Don Jr certainly has all the looks of someone who does a lot of drugs. George W. had lots of sobriety issues that he talked about. Reagan's daughter talked about how many drugs she took starting when she was 15. I don't recall much about Chelsea Clinton or the Obama kids. In any event, no shortage of drug usage among the trust fund lot with lots of access to money and drugs and who don't really have much incentive to work for a living.

For some to have used drugs is not the story here, at all.  It's ancillary.

Hunter's drug use is the least of his transgressions

I disagree, strongly, it's an aside, peripheral, one could eliminate the drug part of this and still have a significant story.

The STORY here is about corruption, not drug use, and a second story is about suppression of the story.  Somewhere down the line maybe his drug use comes into play, but it's really peripheral.

You can disagree or not, doesn't change the very real fact that most of what people say about this is mean things about his drug use, and then there is some stuff about the suppression of the story, and then there is something about corruption that is usually left very undefined.

The news about the child of a President using drugs is salacious perhaps, but compared with the news of a President "on the take", it's insignificant.

Ten percent for the Big Guy.

The news about how the laptop story was suppressed is also far more interesting.

if this had been Trump Jr there would have been headlines for years concerning it

a special prosecutor would have been appointed to investigate it

The "on the take" stuff is fairly flimsy, and it's not like there was a shortage of Trump being on the take, and a lot of those never really took off. The MAr a Lago stuff never really got the attention of Russia stuff. Russia stuff seems to get media attention all the time. Maybe because people in charge grew up during the Cold War? I dunno.
