It did, this is why I advise folks to go to Costco when prices jump, they don't play this game.
I have a Costco membership and I almost never go because it's almost always a zoo. So many people, it's insane. I'll pay more money not to have to deal with that.

I find it takes a couple minutes or three, and we shop there after filling up anyway.  My car claims to need premium and it saves 40-50 cents per.

Why do we still have gallons?  Imagine being able to pay only a dollar or less for your gas.

yeah, where is the evidence for that? oh that's right, it doesn't exist. Trump was able to get Saudis to comply in 2018 to pump baby pump to drive prices down and in 2020 to make record cuts to bring supply down and stabilize prices. President Shits-his-Diapers can't even get them on the phone and has them cozying up to Xi and China.

I'd say the opposite is actually true. Biden has already proven he's on the take. He didn't get the nickname the Senator from MBNA for nothing, you know. Oh and he's also an 80 year old with dementia that shits his own pants. So there's that.
You're obsessed with Biden getting Saudi Arabia on the phone.
I guess if you say it enough times, it matters.

all Biden's handlers would need to do is open up the oil leases

with the price of oil, the oil companies would love to increase production
leases in North Dakota were shot down and the wells are not running

Obsessed? More like embarrassed. Shocked. Sad. And it absolutely does matter.

Biden is trying hard to go down as one of the 3 or 4 worst Presidents ever. Don't think anyone will ever top W, but he's approaching Jimmy Carter level bad and fast. Guy is officially an unmitigated disaster.

Gas prices lead to tensions within Democratic Party | TheHill

Some of this is a bit "funny" to me, in a sense.  I guess it relates to how little folks in Congress understand about pricing, or how they play to "our" prejudices with pompous assertions.

Dunno, maybe both.  "We" elect them.

Can't say being intricately tied to Saudi Arabia is a "good" thing. I know, the deal with the devil and whatnot. But technology exists that can make us less dependent on gas prices. Make it f'ing happen. Then you aren't begging a prince who took a bone saw to your people to give you a call.

Technology can exist, but practical employment soon enough may not.  You can't force some things to happen quicker by throwing money at it.  We probably could facilitate faster adoption of EVs for example, but only slightly, and not very fast.  It's still a tiny portion of the fleet, and will remain so for a long long time no matter how much we spend.  But maybe someone has an actual PLAN somewhere?

Or do we just semi-randomly throw money at it?

The Progressives in Congress are in a bit of a bind here.  What can they say?  Sure, adopt EVs faster, that's facile, got it, but what else?  Suppress internal hydrocarbon production to fight CC?  And see prices in the short term continue to be high and cause pain to voters?

It's the economy stupid.  We'd all like clean air etc. but not so much when it hits the pocketbook hard.

Agreed. And the engineers at the Skunk works built that thing using slide rules instead of super computers. It is a testimony to the genius of Kelly Johnson and his team of engineers at Lockheed's Skunk Works.
