Hmmmmm...

Still, I stand by my statement.  Colbert is a jackass.

I used to watch David Letterman in a laid back sort of way

Man I never realized just how good he was until I watched Colbert

Carson is the legend, and Letterman is an all-time great.

Does the B1G forum have any kind of equivalent to the Backporch?  I feel like a lot of the things we discuss could go on that type of thread.

Dude... Did you watch the clip? It was on his show. It was the setup to a JOKE. Punchline being that a Tesla doesn't use gas so it's irrelevant.

Maybe not the best joke, but I guarantee Colbert had a team of writers putting that monologue together. It's not the same as some celebrity spouting off in an interview that we all need to do our part--when they don't personally feel the sting of higher prices.

The people criticizing Colbert here are the ones being tone-deaf. That's what he was going for!
Yes, I did watch it. And imo it was a tone deaf joke that fell flat- the only part that was funny was the Saudi Arabia bit. But he's not the person to be making that kind of joke if you ask me. It comes across as someone that is completely devoid of self-awareness and someone that is completely out of touch the reality that everyday regular people face- which of course, he is. Probably why when the camera cut to his band leader the dudes face looked like WTF NO!

You're right- he's an extremely wealthy elite who can afford a $120,000 electric car and can withstand any amount of inflation or rising fuel prices- so it is irrelevant- to him.

He's not the head of a family or a single parent that is living pay check to pay check, struggling to pay rent, car payments, healthcare costs, insurance, and having to worry about putting food on the table. These people aren't laughing about rising fuel prices and the increase in inflation that that leads too. It doesn't track with him- it doesn't affect him or his life one way or another at all. Even a little bit.

omg they are all so terrible. makes you really appreciate Letterman. like damn, forgot how good he was. not that i'd watch him a lot, but every now and then i would. can't even stomach the new guys.

Kimmel is the worst, because well....he's not funny or intelligent at all.

Colbert is pretty bad, but still has his moments. There are glimmers in there of the guy that used to be a hero of mine when he did the Colbert Report on Comedy Central.

Perhaps he should have edited this priceless piece before moving forward. The middle class isn't dialed in to his humor from the perch of privilege.Gas prices thru the roof while he and his slappies he endorsed find that cute

They actually use to be entertaining before splicing in their political POV. Not sure who if anyone I know watches either anymore

for sure. times have changed so much, heard Leno talk about back when Carson was doing his thing everything was more loose. these celebrities used to dress themselves, they didn't have all these handlers, stylists, and PR people telling them what to say, how to behave, how to dress. guests would come on and just be themselves with Carson.

Speaking of Leno, he was maybe the best stand up of his era, but man when he was on the tonight show he was just so bleh. you could tell he didn't like it and was just doing it for the massive check. when he's on his own car show now or other peoples shows- it's like damn- that guy is hilarious. even Letterman- who used to be friends with Leno but then they kinda had a feud over Leno getting the tonight show- said that Leno was the funniest guy he ever met and the best comic he ever knew.

No the backporch seems more for pondering and kicking back. maybe I'll head over there until 2022 CFB Kick Off
