I got to thinking about this whole Russia fiasco and the consequences it and its people face.

Putin has essentially, in two weeks, managed to turn his country into North Korea.

Isolated. Sanctioned. Paranoid. Broke.

Companies are pulling out. Banks are pulling out. Even fast food companies are starting to pull the plug.

Nice work, comrade.

The real question is if/when somehow Russians are able to get him out of there.  I don't any notion of how probable that might be.  I'm sure ordinary Russians feel a massive pinch, but I doubt they have much real voice in this.

The situation is ugly.

You have innocent people being slaughtered in Ukraine as well as their property and possessions.

Here inflation is running rampant and getting substantially worse by the day, with each move contributing even more to that issue.

And apparently we’re going to give planes to Poland which may or may not be a good move.

It’s above my pay grade, but I really don’t like where this is going.

I fear a global recession or even depression is possible if not likely, as well as an escalation which drags us into serious military action.

This administration and congress is officially an unmitigated disaster.

There.

I said it.

There is nothing - absolutely nothing - that is good right now, and the CCP loves this.

He's got to be feeling a bit tense. One of his inner circle officers may have the opportunity to off him.Like a 10 second time frame as he's arriving/leaving.Let's hope the sanctions and partisans can hold out for that, the country has to be feeling the pinch.Hard to believe they could faff things up worse than our so called gov't

I'm sure things may be simmering underneath behind their wall. People remember their leaders boarding/welding buildings enterences shut and how many friends/family they've lost. While their "Statesmen" told the rest of the world that there is nothing wrong here. We have to get these shit stains here to bring back those jobs that corporate send over there decades ago just so they could line their pockets with the difference.

my guess is the West's reaction is just increasing his power within his own country. Look at Castro. Look at Saddam. Look at North Korea. Look at Iran. Look at Venezuela. All our sanctions and actions did in those instances was entrench the leader and make him more powerful with greater grip on his country than he was before.

This foreign policy analyst who has done a lot of work for Washington Post and Fox News breaks it down like this, hard to disagree with him.

Could be true.

And yet I don't think the West should have reacted any differently.

Russia has been ruled by tinhorn dictators for most of the last 400 years.

Yet I agree, I don't see anything different that the West should have done.

Colbert is a jackass, no doubt about it.

I feel like most of these people are jackasses. I can't stand when people like DiCaprio yaps on about climate change then jet sets all over the world in private jets (there was even a story that he flew 8,000 miles round trip on a private jet to pick up an enviornmental award)  and charters mega-yachts filled with super models to cruise around miami or the mediterranean. guy chartered a nearly 500 ft mega yacht which burns like 400 gallons of diesel fuel every hour literally just to watch the world cup.

But he drives a prius and plants trees so it's all cool. Lol. If he really cared about climate change, he wouldn't be flying everywhere in private jets or chartering mega yachts.

I bet Sean Penn does stuff like that, too.  I haven't read anything in particular, but he's always seemed like a smarmy little troll.

Dude... Did you watch the clip? It was on his show. It was the setup to a JOKE. Punchline being that a Tesla doesn't use gas so it's irrelevant.

Maybe not the best joke, but I guarantee Colbert had a team of writers putting that monologue together. It's not the same as some celebrity spouting off in an interview that we all need to do our part--when they don't personally feel the sting of higher prices.

The people criticizing Colbert here are the ones being tone-deaf. That's what he was going for!
