At this point more sanctions are like grounding your kid who is already grounded. Putin's thug empire has lived with sanctions for two decades and has already priced in their impact. And we're at the point where further sanctions ends up hurting NATO nations as well, which is why Germany and Italy are voicing their intent to veto sanctions to remove Russia from the SWIFT financing system.

The sanctions ship has LONG sailed.

This might be the best bet to a quick ending to violent Russian occupation:

Hopefully by Monday Russia's invasion is concluding their big show of force (with limited civilian casualties, one can pray) all to put Ukraine in no position to negotiate when it comes to Putin demanding an official neutral status from Ukraine and no furthering of a potential NATO membership from Ukraine (as they began in November 2020 when Ukraine joined NATO's partnership program), all with the Russian goal of ensuring NO western weapons positioned within Ukrainian borders.
Ukraine needs to take that deal ASAP. For their own sake and the entire worlds sake. No more people should die. This should not mushroom into a greater conflict that involves other countries which would only lead to more destruction and death.

Make it official. Our official policy is one of neutrality, we're not joining NATO and no NATO weapons will ever be stationed in our borders.

Zero people had to die. The US could've brokered this very deal years ago and should have never gotten so deeply involved in the internal affairs of a foreign country that means zilch to us by helping support the overthrow of Yanukovych and plot the replacement government in 2014.

The health, safety and security of our guests, crew and communities we visit is our top priority. Due to the escalated situation between Russia and Ukraine we have made the decision to alter itineraries and remove calls to St. Petersburg, Russia from our sailings for the remainder of the year. Our team is diligently working to confirm replacement ports and will advise all impacted guests and travel advisors as soon as possible. We share your disappointment and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, but also hope you can understand the necessity of this action.

As expected.

Yeah all entertainment-related events and ventures to Russia are being canceled.

UEFA Champions League canceled the tournament final in St. Petersburg, Formula 1 canceled the race to be held in Sochi, cruise ports of call canceled and eliminated.  Safety reasons alone would justify it, even if political sentiment hadn't shifted dramatically against them.

Cancel everything, shut them down, it could take some time to replace the NG Germany needs.  Isolate them as much as possible.

I really don't expect some of the Euro countries to respond aggressively enough, they will pretend and do some minor stuff.

They're already bickering about proposed sanctions being too strict, wanting to carve out and omit from sanctions various special interests like diamonds and other luxury items.  It's disheartening.

Similar is happening here in the US, of course.

I think the best course of action would be to make the Russian oligarchs and their minions really feel it. They all have lavish properties, exotic cars, yachts, and planes in rich US/Western European cities. Seize it all. Deport them all. The big chunk that have bought citizenship in these countries- revoke their citizenship and deport them back. I think the only shot you have of really hurting the Putin regime is making life a bitch for those people. If the rich and powerful are really feeling it then they might all gang up and conspire against him.

isn't it always about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ though?

The Russian wealthy buys a shit ton of luxury goods made in Europe (Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, etc.) and a shit ton luxury cars (Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Audi) made in Europe.

Crap. Hopefully I can get to Costco this afternoon before prices spike $0.30/gal on the speculation that prices might spike.

I had no idea that Russia could influence the price of oil like they say

What percentage of the worlds oil comes from Russia?
They won't let me give blood anymore. The burnt orange color scares the hell out of the doctors.
