I was never a Volvo fan.  I had a brief liking for Saabs but never bought one.

I think today all cars are about the same overall within the same classification.  You can just about buy this brand because you like the interior better.

those are beautiful, but even worse than the later full size models as far as needs to repair vs cost. a well kept one can top $100k easy, and a pristine one will usually be north of $200k.
Yeah that wouldn't surprise me at all.  His parents were loaded but this was in the 80s so they weren't so pricey then.

Heh... well, he's the one with the brand-new Bronco, and I'm the one with the 4-year-old Jeep.  So we can both be jealous of him, although the Jeep is still in great condition.

His has the Badlands trim, with the Sasquatch package, which is basically their highest and best off-road combination, and is designed to be comparable to the Wrangler Rubicon (which is what I have).  Looks just like this:

the rubicon a 4 door? my brother had a 96 jeep wrangler just before i turned 16 and had my bronco. i preferred mine, but must admit, the jeep was hella fun in the mud. 4 speed manual, what i learned to drive on.

side story, we flipped his jeep going to the beach when i was 15. long story short, he'd been in nashville at a basketball camp. one of those get up early, practice all day, go to bed late, rinse/repeat for a week. when it was over, he met us in bham and we started heading to beach. me and him in jeep, mom and younger siblings in van in front. about half way there, he fell asleep at wheel. i was asleep in passenger side, facing window. this was back when seat belts were still optional. and for some reason i had literally just put mine on not 5 min before. i woke up to grinding noise, saw the asphalt hit window and disappear, and then a surreal swirl. kinda crazy, but time really does seem to slow down in moments like that. other cars said we rolled around 10-12 times. landed upside down on inside lane of oncoming traffic, and rocked back down into median right side up. neither of us injured more than a little whiplash and a very minor cut on my elbow that didn't even need stitching. clothes and stuff were everywhere. my poor mom was running back down interstate screaming her head off. i was so dazed, i'd gotten a cell phone of someone who'd stopped and was trying to call my mom at home, lol. my brother was out picking up clothes. she thought we were dead and no one was helping us. roll bar 100% saved our lives that day. that beach trip was... i didn't enjoy it. went through it like a haze. every once in a while i still get feeling like i cheated death and i'm not supposed to be here.

I really like the Bronco... In pictures.

The ones I've seen on the road, however, all look cheap and insubstantial.

I'm sure none of them have been Badlands/Sasquatch models though. Maybe that makes a difference.

the rubicon a 4 door?
Yup.  And, glad you survived the rollover, that's very scary stuff.

Yeah the base models look pretty wimpy.  This Badlands/Sasquatch is definitely meatier visually, and seems solid while onboard.  I haven't driven it yet so can't comment on what that feels like.

It would also eat up a lot of performance cars.
Yeah I'm sure.

I don't much care about performance cars, as I'm sure everyone around here has figured out. But to each his own.

If I were going to get a Rover of any kind, I suppose it'd be a Defender.

My problem with "performance cars" is that one really can't use the performance legally very much at all.

most of the ones i've seen are sport models, which are just another soccer mom suv. i've only seen 2 of the full size ones for more than a glance, and they both looked fun one was very similar to the picture posted.

Prolly for the better as most really can't handle the performance logically very much at all

I know I can't handle a "performance car" very well at all, even on a track.  They're beyond my capabilities.  But it's fun to try, on a track.

My cousin way back had a real Jeep, Army surplus I guess, I recall his driving it down the creek bed one day with me in it just because he could.  He lived in the country on a farm, so it wasn't ridiculous.

Same here. I really do enjoy driving fast and enjoy driving high performance vehicles. But I can't prioritize that with other things at this point in my life, as I need a car that can shuttle kids and dogs around. The Ford Flex is boring as hell, but it's such a perfectly functional vehicle for this time in my life that I love it.

Although I could pretty easily buy myself a trackday-only vehicle (i.e. not supercar, something like a track-ready Miata or other similar vehicle), I don't have time for another hobby. I barely have time for the ones I already have.

So for me, the Jeep is my toy. It's not fast, but it's a hell of a lot of fun to drive around in the California sunshine with the top down [or removed entirely, in my case].

I bought a Volvo in 1997, a used 1995. 27K miles on it.

Ended up getting rid of it in 2015, with 425K miles on it.

I say WE deserve it, because WE keep voting for the useless idiots that allowed it all to happen.
And you seem to think they controll the Conglomerates? Bought out,do you recall what you post from day to day?. Again all that crap left in the middle east by who,for what, how come and why - but Biden who ran on the premise in 2008 that he would pull everthing out and and now doesn't? Give me Imperial Powers for a week i guarantee the the deck will get shufflled and the middle class wouldn't be getting the bill. These F****** have had their tentacles in the treasury/congress so long they dictate policy while disguishing evidence as an incompetant Congress.Which is obviously part true. "We" didn't get bought out. These assholes have taken a vow to serve the people, not the barons.I almost wish a Vlad was in Power at least long last some of these knobs would get what they have coming

I'm somewhat the opposite. I'm no race car driver, but back when I had my motorcycle I was one of the quicker guys on the track, even though I was deeply behind other guys on the same bike in power:weight ratio lol...

Same with any various of the indoor higher-performance go kart tracks... We did a big event for a work thing a few years back, and out of 70 people participating, I was 3rd-fastest. Again, with one of the worst power:weight ratios of anyone in the entire field.

I view at as combination of two things... One is understanding the actual physics of racing... Optimal racing lines, weight transfer, etc to get the most out of what you have. The other is the willingness to push until I start finding the limits, which a lot of people are terrified to do. I'm intellectual enough to know what to do on a racetrack, and stupid enough to try it :72:

Now, if you're talking about supercars, I agree that by the time we reach their limits, I'm exceeding mine. But in any given performance driving "competition" against the general public, I'd probably claim I'd be at the very least in the upper decile of lap times, and maybe even top 5%.
