I wonder how a vehicle of that ilk actually drives on a normal road, not very good I imagine.

There is a Jeep in the garage here that shows up with a lot of mud on it at times.  Other than some normal looking nonstock wheels, it's not lifted, he has fun with it it seems.
Jeeps don't really need much more than stock to do any off-roading that most typical weekenders would be willing to attempt anyway.

But a simple lift and some bigger tires look cool. That's why I'm doing the 2 1/2" lift and some 35" tires.

I don't mind a person who buys such a Jeep and drives it in the mud, it's cool.  I wonder about folks who buy one and only drive it on pavement,  they aren't very good at that.

Jeepers call those "mall crawlers" or "mall queens."  Those are not intended to be polite terms. :)

Personally I don't much care how or where people use their vehicles.  Jeeps look cool, and they're (sort-of) convertibles.  They're fun, even on city roads.

Our Rubicon already has a modest lift from the factory.  As soon as these 33s that came with it are done, which will be soon, I'll go to 35s.  I'm thinking either KO2s or Nitto Ridge Grapplers, any thoughts/preferences?

I've had no experience with either... When I last got new rubber I went with the Goodyear Duratrac, which I picked because they're known for good on-road manners but have a tread pattern that suggests they'll be fine in anything I dare to throw at this Jeep. Not sure if they come in the right sizes for a big 35 though...

Are you planning on going new wheels too? I'm going to be shooting for 35x12s, so it'll require new rims. My era Rubicon had 32" and that rim won't accommodate anything like a 35x12.

Yeah, it doesn't really bother me, though it's like a kid on an 18 speed bike that only uses one gear.

The only things that bother me of late aside from the Egg Lobby is the return of The Scooter.

I'm making a red pepper sauce with the Branzino, which the wife wants me to cook in the oven.  in the interest of marital harmony etc.  Costco has roasted red peppers.  I don't have any basil, but used some Italian seasoning.  And black pepper.  And butter and cream.

Do I take the head of the fish off or leave it on?

Toyo open country or Cooper stt pros... both great tires, with slight edge to Toyo.. both will last with well aligned, balanced, and suspended north of 70k miles in most cases.

Nittos are, generally, stupid heavy.  The disadvantage the coops have to toyo is weight.  But nitto? Wear fast due to soft compounds and that weight... spun weight is x4... kills low end usable torque and overall fuel mileage.   Toyo are lighter and though made of similar soft compounds they're more strategic where they use it.

I've ran all kinds of at and mt tires, having used them on and off road and on everything from light weight trail machines purpose built to 1ton diesel pickups more wide open road ready than offroad... the STT pros were my favorite as "do all"... they wore great on a 11k# diesel and didn't scream the whole time as the toyos are apt to do.

Of course when I pointed that big pig on 2400mile legs of road I'd often swap whatever I was running for a set of nitto duragrappler- super quiet, stiff enough, and highway tread for best mileage.... hard as a rock, and terrible in wet... but mileage couldn't be beat... its the one nitto that's light.

I should be able to go up to 35 on the same wheels, a friend who has the same year of JKU Rubicon did so.  He did KO2s but I've heard good things about the Nittos during my "research" but that research is probably about as good as investigating horse paste as a cureall for COVID so who knows.

Thanks for the info, sir.

I currently have the original MT tires on it so any AT tire is going to wear longer and ride better.
