Yes, federal law requires every person to wear a face covering that covers the nose and mouth at all times while traveling. Face coverings must be made of a solid material, fully cover the mouth and nose, fit snugly against the face, and be secured under the chin. Prohibited coverings include those with exhalation valves, holes (such as lace or mesh), neck gaiters, and bandanas. Face shields may be worn in addition to a face covering, but not as an alternative.

I didnt hear anything about mask  fitting improperly

I didn't understand what was said, and this may well have been "outside the lines".

I like to get other other side of the story in such cases.

I don't hear so well, the convo was muddled to me, as I stated.  The airline should have this policy of no politics clearly stated.

when on a plane, do as you are told by the flight crew - they are the authority 

fight your battle after exiting the aircraft

The mealy mouthed language and weird sourcing is bad journalism. 

"Video from Libs of TikTok purportedly says ..." 

You don't have to publish until you get something useful. People are generally mad about the shoddiness from media, and possibly the most influential and important outlet should do better.
