I'm going back to the accountant after 2 seasons on my own.

I really think it would be tougher to use a preparer than to use TT myself.  It would take a while to explain a few things I think.

used turbotax the past two seasons

had my financial advisor help me with some of the investment stuff that generated taxable income or whatever

forms required

out of state - South Dakota filing this season from Dec 9th
some unemployment benefits for a few months

just more complex than usual

I'm sure I could guess my way thru with turbotax but it might not be accurate

maybe I'll give TT a try and just see how it goes

TurboTax works for me, but admittedly my filling is rather simple. I don't even have enough deductions to itemize.

The hardest bit is accurately putting in capital gain/loss from ESPP and RSU sales because they sometimes show up as zero cost basis and I need to use my E-Trade supplemental documents to find the adjusted cost basis.

I use Turbotax mostly because they save everyone's social security numbers so I don't have to go looking for them again

I uses TT Premier and it does everything I need including one free state return

I do mine on TT and one year, I went into one of those big-name tax places.  They came out with exactly the same thing I did.  So I said "thank you" and walked right out.

Did the big stuff for my move this morning.  Just have a couple small trips to make otherwise and clean-up.

I'm tired and my right bicep keeps spasming.  This sedentary lifestyle really hurts once you hit 40.  I can't just play Superman for a few hours and bounce right back.

It would be unusual for one of "us" to get a different figure at some tax prep place if the inputs are the same.  It isn't magic, and they use software much like TT et al.

The main thing I like is how TT downloads my info from Schwab automagically.
