If Russia is "withdrawing" troops then that confirms they'd built up troops in the first place.  Not some training exercise, which of course anyone with half a brain knew was a typical Russian propaganda lie from the beginning.

And if they really do end up withdrawing troops and de-escalating the unstable situation that THEY created in the first place, that's a good thing.  Makes me wonder what concessions have been made to Putin.  Perhaps he HAS received his assurances that Ukraine will never be part of NATO, which would be fine with me.

I mean, if they are conducting military exercises (which they had been doing) and never invade- even though the US propaganda machine have continued to scream for months on end that Russia invasion is imminent- any day now....trust us- and so far they've been dead wrong for months- then I don't see what the major deal is. Gathering troops and running exercises does not = invasion. I'd say it'd have been pretty smart posturing by Putin and him f**king with Ukraine to get some concessions from the US - if it works. I don't think it's completely fair to say that the unstable situation was created solely by Russia. It does take two to tango. The US most definitely has some blame in this entire fiasco.

If Russia says they are in the beginning stages of withdrawing troops- then I'm inclined to believe them. I really don't see how saying you're withdrawing troops- then proceeding to invade would help their cause any. If they pulled that sneaky shit it'd just give the US even more ammo in going after them in retaliation. I just don't see how it'd benefit them- if anything it'd hurt them.

At the end of the day, Putin is a business man. Dude is said to be worth hundreds of billions of dollars. No one has any idea how much he's really worth. War with Ukraine and pissing off the west would interfere with his business. Europe buys his gas like they are crackhead Americans buying the brand new iPhones every time a new one comes out. As much as 40% of Europe's nat gas supply comes from Russia. That NordStream2 pipeline will allow Putin to sell Europe even more energy and save him billions of dollars a year in transit fees he currently pays Ukraine for sending gas through Ukrainian territory. NordStream2 completely bypasses Ukrainian territory. No need to pay them billions in transit fees every year with that new pipeline. Guaranteed to be no Nord2 pipeline selling gas any time soon if they invade.

I'd say the US is most definitely pissed off that Europe is buying energy from Russia and isn't buying that energy from US based multi-nationals - Trump openly droned on about this. Can't say I disagree with him there- US largely pays for their defense with NATO- least they could do is buy sh*t from us. And there can be no doubt a piss-ant, corrupt, poor 3rd rate shithole like Ukraine- a country that has a GDP of about $150 billion a year- roughly the same as the US state of Arkansas (one of the poor states in 'Merica) is flaming pissed off that they would be on the verge of losing the few billion dollars a year they get from Russia in the transit fees they currently get. It's a poor corrupt shithole- one of the most corrupt countries there is- and the poorest country in Europe- and they'd be on the verge of losing around 1.33 to 2% of their annual GDP just by Russia bypassing them and not paying those transit fees.

Ukraine earns about $1.2 billion a year on transit fees.  I doubt that would drop to zero with NS 2.  Their GDP is about $160 billion.

I have read that Putin funds the Green Parties in Germany, which makes sense as they have common cause of a sort.

Their GDP is about 155 billion. This is....well, not good. They are literally the poorest country in Europe- even though they are considered part of Europe for some reason but really aren't European at all. And they earn closer to $2 billion a year in transit fees. It varies by year. Depends on how much Russia pumps through. Ukraine's transit fee deal with Russia is set to expire in just 2 years, and Ukraine is such a poor shithole (poorest country in Europe) and so hard-up and desperate for that transit fee cash that the new deal Ukraine is asking for cut rates in half and they were seeking a much longer term- 15 years. Last deal was 5 years. Russia has been sending exactly the bare minimum amount of nat gas that's been stipulated in their transit fee contract with Ukraine and not a drop more. Ukraine is also pissed at this because....well they'd be making more money the more gas Russia pumps through their territory.

With a fully operational NordStream2 in the near future and the TurkStream up and running in 2020 - Russia could completely bypass Ukrainian territory when sending energy to Europe- starving a dirt poor shit hole corrupt country that is desperate and hard up for cash of billions of dollars a year in revenue and nearly a couple percentage points of it's GDP.

Hmm, Biden and Putin have a call 48 hours ago, and suddenly Putin is "withdrawing".

Interesting to see how people are going to spin this into "potted plant" or somesuch...

Are you implying - or getting your “ spin” in early?

A senior Biden administration official called the Putin call "professional and substantive," but said, "There was no fundamental change in the dynamic that has been unfolding now for several weeks."

There are lots of small, lightweight campers on the market, designed to be towed by passenger cars and midsize SUVs.  Some are really cool, but none are really big enough for anything more than a couple.  Or maybe a couple plus a very small baby.

We had to move out of a 26' Airstream because as our kids got up to double digits, it just wasn't enough room.

No, I just find this hilarious. While I've been vocally anti-Trump, I'm not exactly pro-Biden. I generally don't think he's accomplished much of anything in the last year.

I just find the fact that the date of the call was known, and now very shortly afterwards Putin is withdrawing, and NOBODY has touched that subject with a 10 foot pole. If a certain other politician had the call and within 48 hours the withdrawal was occurring, I guarantee people would be lining up to give him credit.

My favorite in this category is the Airstream Nest, but I'm admittedly a little biased.

Good point.

it may still happen.  The staff at the WH seems skeptical of the “ withdrawal “.   To Biden’s credit- he is not taking credit.  That’s a good sign as far as I can tell.  There are some things about him I like.    But I could say that about all of our POTUS in my lifetime.

Biden and his administration were most definitely fanning the flames of war and talking a big game, guaranteeing a Russian invasion of Ukraine, and talking that tough guy stuff - but he and his administration were never actually going to follow through on any of it, save for a couple rounds of new sanctions on Russia. For one the American public has serious war fatigue after trillions of US tax-payer dollars wasted on 20 years of failure in Afghanistan, the disasters and destruction which our meddling caused in Libya & Syria, and almost a decade of war in Iraq- and we haven't fully left Iraq- we still have around 3,500 troops there. The vast majority of the American public and the Western European public were/are completely against any war with Russia over Ukraine. It'd be an extremely tough sell and one that he would not be able to sell to the American people, imo.

This was a game of chicken. First one to blink lost. The whole Ukraine/NATO issue was way way way way way more important to Russia than it could possibly ever be to the United States. Ukraine literally does not matter at f**king all to the United States. Country could wiped off the map tomorrow and thrown into the stone age and it would not make a bean hill of difference to the United States. They are completely irrelevant to the national, economic, or strategic interests of the United States. Just on that alone I think it was likely that the US was going to cave and blink first. Ukraine at the end of the day just doesn't mean anything to us- so f**k 'em.
