I truly do not believe we are as divided as the vocal extremes on either side would have you believe.

Americans mostly all want the same things.

Frankly, I don't know what a Republican is anymore. I'm certainly not one.

Same goes for Democrats. I'm not that either.

We need a JFK or Reagan. I don't care which. Either one would be great right now - and neither would have a party.

that's true, but I feel like Trump & Hillary threw some major gasoline on the already burning fire. both of them conducted themselves pretty poorly. and Hillary did not help with her pushing the Russia nonsense- just put Trump on the offensive and made him be even more of a dbag. he's not a guy you push into a corner- he just goes into conquer the world take no prisoners full asshole mode when you do that.
that

unfortunately, the media and the American public seemed to embrace the raging flames
"Courage; Generosity; Fairness; Honor; In these are the true awards of manly sport."

We're not, but the noisy folks on the fringes get noticed.  And the two political parties want us to be incensed.  It helps with money and volunteering.

I hope you're right. And I do believe most Americans have way more in common than they have differences, and mostly want the same things.

I'd take a JFK. All day. I blame Reagan in large part for the mess this country is in right now. The complete erosion of the middle class, open assault on labor unions, deregulation of entire industries, massive tax cuts for the wealthy while bloating the federal budget and sending the federal deficit skyrocketing- all that sh*t was jump started by Reagan then kicked into overdrive by Bush I, Clinton, and Bush II. There has been no real wage increase for working people since he took office... and when Reagan became President, the United States was the largest creditor nation in the world- by before even the end of his first term the US went from largest creditor nation in the world to largest debtor nation in the world.

Reagan for some odd reason is strangely mythologized as a great President. He wasn't. Hell of a bulls*t artist, one charming SOB, terrific public speaker/communicator and one hell of a TV actor though.

What is meant by "complete erosion of the middle class"?

More hyperbole?

pretty simple strategy that's worked since beginning of time....divide and conquer. The two parties are largely controlled by their donor class- and they agree on most things.

I'm sorry, but how is that hyperbole? You cannot be serious right now. Do you live with your head in the sand?

Guess you must not have noticed the destruction of labor unions and millions and millions of well-paying manufacturing jobs moving off-shore from the Midwest & Northeast to Mexico, China, Vietnam, and other countries that provide cheap slave labor.

I am seriously baffled that you would even say something so stupid. It's not hyperbole at all. Take a ride through Detroit or Flint. The American middle class has been squeezed dry for 40 years and it's at a breaking point - that's why you saw a total dbag known fraudster tv reality show fake populist like Trump win a Presidential election. 40 years of that neo-liberal shit...clearly ain't working.

Precisely why you're not going to get one.

If I say "that hill has completely eroded", I would be saying the hill is gone, there is no remnant.  If I said it has eroded, one could infer it's still there but smaller.

One reason the middle class has eroded, slightly, is they moved into the upper class, which probably is an OK thing.

Yes.  And I have said many times that unfortunately the people on the fridges seem to have the microphones.

I had to sit on my fridge to change the time on the clock in our kitchen last fall.  I'd loaned my ladder to the neighbor and couldn't be bothered to go fetch it.
