Most of the vet suicides are folks over 50, it's an unusual problem, with no obvious solution.

And every candidate says its important and yet it's never a priority.  I'm not even a rah-rah military guy, but what our country does with its Vets is detestable.

The drug situation is not helped by allowing the drug cartel a free run at our southern border

Yeah, it wouldn't be as bad if we put up a wall like they would in the 1300s......to stop a drug that is already here in the U.S.

Your post is THE most ignorant thing I've ever read.
Ever.

Google "fentanyl" and evolve, why don't you.

That is an asshole post. People here are not dying from hydrocodone. They are dying from the shit that comes from China - through Mexico.

The Fentanyl Trade Through Mexico, Explained in 8 Graphs - InSight Crime

Fentanyl and its precursors are produced at numerous chemical factories in China, trafficked through Mexican ports, and transported to the border and into the US by established Mexican groups by land, air, and sea. However, it also goes straight from China to the US in the mail, threatening to cut Mexican criminal groups out of the trade altogether.

What is it that we "do" to vets exactly?

We trot them out to get an applause and then we ignore them.
VA Hospitals suck compared to regular ones.
And while they kill themselves continuously, we don't make them a priority.

Maine is the most favorable state for veterans to live in.

They place them on an even higher pedestal than the Left places Transgender Muslims of color.

I don't know how one can make a priority of elderly vets many of whom are not under VA care.

I guess we should throw our hands up and say the problem is too hard to solve.

I get varied reviews from my vet friends, but the majority are bad.  However, most of the vet suicides are not under VA care for depression or anything else, but the rate discrepancy is greater in the younger cohort.  This article claims the VA is doing a decent job, if they are being used for mental health.  Many older depressed vets don't seek VA care for mental health, that makes it tougher to solve unless family steps in somehow.

A tough aspect of depression I encountered was apathy, I simply did not care to seek help or get better.  It's a spiral.  It's easy to say we should do more, fine, and harder to explain what that would mean.

Some problems are in fact too hard to solve, but they are impossible to solve without ideas  that could work.
