I heard that Putin and Biden began talks at 11:04 Eastern.  Guess we'll see what comes of it.

I suppose Biden could strenuously object to a potential Russian invasion.

Putin knows the deal.  No use repeating it.   He might agree to face saving measures like some negotiations, but in reality, the Russian people are told he's reacting to aggressive moves by the west.  I still don't think he pulls the trigger, I am guessing we'll see some kind of rather pointless "talks" while Putin destabilizes Ukraine from within.

I mean, he's already been doing this for the past 8 years.  Currently, the separatist rebels in Ukraine that are backed by Russia, are an example of this strategy in action.

For a baseball analogy, the U.S. is the Yankees and Russia is the Rays.

With an economy the size of my left nut, Russia's tiny investment in computer hackers has undermined our big, bad machine the past decade and a simple showing of might along a border has caused us to run around screaming that the sky is falling.

They're winning while spending far less.  Even if nothing comes of it, they've already won.

Russia is supremely pragmatic and rarely waste effort.  Theyre a nuclear powerhouse and they'd use them if they saw an opening and a need... plus, they don't have a leash on all of them they've produced.

Furthermore, that's a LOT of effort and money to amass those forces and not invade.

I'd say they're going to... but, this is putin we're talking about who is one tricky SoB... he wouldn't be doing what he's doing if there wasn't a victory no matter how it plays out.... thats how he rolls.

Step 1:  If you're somebody's bitch, they have no reason to start a war.  They already own you.

Sheer Hyperbole.

There's no way that Russia's economy is anywhere near as small as either of your nuts. O0

Sure, the military buildup is not something new either except he's added to it.  Perhaps he saw how "exercises" got everyone here excited, so he extended them and enlarged them, while doing the other stuff inside Ukraine.  Maybe he gets some concessions, maybe not, but it's a stick.  Over the long haul, Ukraine has another election and by his good fortune, the Putin sympathizer "wins".  They turn into Byelorussia II.  Moldova is already gone.

For some reason, we DID let the Baltic Republics into NATO which is rather scary to me.

Not a good trend obviously, doubled in five years.  When I had shoulder surgery, the doc gave me a 40 pill prescription for oxy, I took one of them and hid the rest.  The discomfort wasn't nearly as bad as needing an opiod, I took some ibu for a couple of days instead.  I don't know why he prescribed so many, but I can see a situation where a person is in more pain and takes the full dose and "likes it".

My wife had shoulder surgery, different surgeon, and same thing, but her surgery was more involved, I think she took 2 or 3.

It's amazing, if I get a cold I'm down and out and she keeps on doing the dishes and laundry anyway.

Women can push a bowling ball through a water hose.  We'll never be as tough as them.

While we all squabble over Ukraine and politics and this and that, kids are overdosing on drugs and Vets are offing themselves.  Every day.  Every minute.
But we (everyone - us, the news, everyone we know, etc) squabble.

We can take people into outer space as if it's a carnival ride, but we can't get the people our society is indebted to squared away.

Most of the vet suicides are folks over 50, it's an unusual problem, with no obvious solution.
