I was talking with my brother last night, and the Ukraine topic came up. He doesn't believe Russia will invade (nor do I) but we both think it's possible, and it is.

That led to a discussion of what the US would do if China and/or Russia, Iran, North Korea started planting troops and bases in our back yard.

Places like Mexico (China could own that country in a minute), Cuba, Venezuela.

That would be the equivalent of NATO admitting the Ukraine, on Russia's doorstep.

The US would be outraged. Just like Russia is outraged.

Our border is wide open.

It would be pretty easy to infiltrate, and frankly, it's 99.9 percent likely that it's already started.

2021 Audi RS Q8 PVOTY Review: Big Chungus, the SUV (motortrend.com)
It’s rare that Motor Trend and Car and Driver disagree so widely on a Vehicle, but here they do.

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a30233234/2020-audi-rs-q8-drive/

https://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/audi/rsq8/driving

I find the Motor Trend review to be… well.. way off.  Having put 7000 miles on this beast , Car and Driver and Top Gear nailed it. Outrageous speed and acceleration, grip in corners that defies physics ( mostly due to the 48V anti roll bars on each axle, and 4 wheel steering) and a ride around town or on long trips, in comfort mode to be super smooth and quiet.

The x3M competition definitely has a stiff ride even in its most docile setting- as I said before it isn’t for everyone. I love them both- but the Audi definitely did a better job on the ride/handling trade off.

make certain you have the right anodes on that thing... and well working cathodic system.... saltwater will make quick work of that duo drive otherwise- and so will stray current in a marina if it's left in the water.

other wise... it's between cobalt and crownline for the crown of best cruiser boats in that class... I envy you... I dumped mine last year (a rinker) as it just isn't well served here.... need a shallows boat here and an outboard.. I went through three engines on that thing, God knows how many props (until i got it right, and then swapped engines and outdrives with different ratios so the game started all over again).... the last one i had was a merc 357mag that i installed a close loop (fresh water) system on--- then, the game was "get the right thermostat and then trick the ECM/ignition".... it was a PITA... however, that rig would run 62mph with a ron hill five blade s/s prop on it....

well, until I spun every tooth off the shaft (in the upper) pinion in a maneuver to get over the wake of a shrimp trawler as i was passing it... i lifted over the wake, dropped to neutral during flight, and then back into gear with some pretty heavy throttle- loud bang lots of crunching for a split second or two, and then notta... engine running but no gogo... started to get warm (no drive movement no water flow- the merc outdrives in alpha1gen2 flavor have the pump in the foot, and if the drive ain't spinning you get no water flow... so... i sat there waiting for a buddy to arrive.... fortunately, the drive i purchased was under warranty and was rated for the ponies the engine was producing..

Good advice there. I did have a marine survey done, and everything is in order. We don't keep our boats in the water here - we use the in/out service at the marina. It's really nice, because they wash it down for us, and they flush the outdrive too.

This new one comes next Wednesday. Now, I need to sell the old one.

Shouldn't be a problem.

Ouch.  Great feedback though.
on Badges side of the state he has to be careful. That’s the shallow side. (Gulf Side)

Water on this side much deeper- though ironically I wanted a shallow water boat for fishing. Just a 25 foot Ranger Bay boat powers by Mercury Verado 300 HP.  Most folks over hear run outboards.

Most here do too. I like the comfort of the I/O though.

Just have to keep an eye out for shallows. It's not that hard, to be honest, but I have not gone out in the dark yet.

Plenty of depth for inter coastal waterway trip from Gulf to Atlantic side!

i used to run out to dinner via water... Beaufort NC is about a 30 run on plane in the daylight... we'd just putter back well after dark... the bestest thing i ever did was to use a plotting GPS- nothing fancy just a tablet with 5g--- well, 3g when i started using it... and navionics app... i'd be carefui on the way out, and plotting.... on the way home i got to where i'd trust it... just zoom in and keep the bow on the line... never had a problem.

EVERYBODY here smacks bottom half a dozen times every season.... it freakin' changes often... really often... the route to the inlet has changed at least a dozen times since i started using the waters around here.  i ain't even joking.. and the inlet?  NC is infamous for their inlets and this one (one closest to me) is no different...

however, brown's inlet near onslow beach aboard camp lejeune has obstacles you'd not guess if yo didn't know... it's a bombing range and there are targets on the barrier isles... lot's of people (me included) drop anchor at low tide when the sandbar is massive... but you gotta pick your anchor up and reset it as the tide comes in- otherwise it'll be under FEET of sand and you're gonna get a workout retrieving it... and sometimes, there are 'things' you snag... such as unexploded ordinance... kablooee....

some effer from Winston Salem weekend warrior found that out perhaps 3 years ago... the idiot pulled in a UX and carried it to the marina... the marina called local PD and fire/rescue who in turn called EOD at Lejeune... they stopped traffic across the only causeway in swansboro for several hours... the marines dug a hole near a barrier island and dropped the UX in it with some pretty heavy charges and blew it in place.... now here is the thing- i happen to know those UX's are inert... training rounds... i don't think they've fired a live round out there in a long dang time... not that the inert ones are 'safe'- they'll take your hands off- but... they didn't have to blow it like they did... promptly following the operation there were awards passed out to that EOD crew and newspaper articles about how awesome they are... it was quite humorous- poor guys- they sit there doing nothing for years on end, and i don't reckon i can blame them for the dramatics... however, it re-locked down brown's inlet for a good while.. $1k fine to stop there... they'd stopped enforcing it... they have since stopped again- but i don't want to be the one to find out they're doing it again, ya know? heheheheheee

Like the new rig, badge.  I also like the old one.

I'm selling mine this spring, it's time to move on from the cruiser to a wakeboard boat.

Anyone interested, let me know. :)
