Why?
because NATO has allowed us to be the worlds police and wield massive influence and power over all of Europe and keep most of Europe as our vassal states. No one willingly gives up great power. Europe is our bitch. The UK gov't for example is especially the United States' bitch. They in particular are good obedient little whores and do whatever the f**k the United States tells them to do.

I'd rather we protect and secure our own borders than those that are thousands of miles away.

Yeah okay.
so you don't believe that NATO has allowed the United States to wield massive power in Europe and through-out the world? And if you don't think the UK is our bitch- you really haven't been paying attention. The UK is called America's Poodle or America's lapdog for a reason. They went from being our masters, to being our bitches. Kicking their asses in the late 18th century really must've did a number on them. They've had Stockholm syndrome for 230+ years.

I think most of our influence in Europe is Hollywood, McDonalds  Facebook and Apple and Amazon.

And the English language of course.  All the airline pilots have to speak English when communicating.  English words creep into their languages.  Their governments are fairly often at odds with ours on various issues.

Germany, nowadays sure - but that wasn't the case for literally decades. The French have always been difficult for the US to try to control - they partially left NATO in the 1960s and didn't fully rejoin/integrate until the late 2000s/early 2010. They were I believe the only NATO country to go against the US during the bullsh*t Iraq War. The rest of NATO however- basically falls right in line on anything of vital importance to the US, and the UK does it gleefully - UK are especially pathetic.

all this slick versatility carried an $111,865 as-tested price, but that doesn't seem to bother Cadillac shoppers, who are readily forking over more than $100,000 for their 2021 Escalades.

Cadillac Escalade can only tow around 7700 lbs.  No thanks.
