I paid great attention to that war.

My son was in it, first to fight.

My cousin's son was in it, he was in the Army and part of the group tasked to find Bergdahl.  He has some harsh things to say about that episode.

Tactically, the withdrawal was poorly managed, in my view.  A lot of folks in leadership should have been fired.

Afghanistan’s collapse leaves allies questioning U.S. resolve on other fronts - The Washington Post
They should be questioning our resolve on other fronts. We have engaged in essentially constant war for two decades in areas that we have almost no interest in. We should be questioning our resolve on other fronts.

If our allies had their way, your grandkids could have fought in it too.

I think in retrospect, it was a great tactical success. The evacuation of thousands was a near impossible trick to pull. A lot of the criticism doesn't amount to much that makes any sense if you think about it for more than five seconds. But most people don't think about that kind of stuff for more than five seconds, because they didn't care about it in the first place.

My son believes that not one troop should have left before every citizen and Afghan partners were evacuated.

I agree with him on this.

We'd still be there, and probably would be there for many more years if we were intent on that.

A much bigger effort should have been made

Pullout should have started immediately upon taking out OBL. Even if it took 5 years, we'd have still been out by 2016.

I'd argue we didn't need to go in, in force, and once the Taliban had been deposed, we could have left, or we could have left under Obama about any time, or we could have stayed with a low posture (which I would not have liked).  Declare victory and leave.

Anyway, we stayed trying to fix a broken country, which sounds like one of our things.

Another "ranking" to note, I wondered if the raters visited each site.  Missing from this listing, USC, ND, Michigan, Florida, Eastern Michigan, and OU.  South Carolina?  huh.
