The only drink that should cost $5.00 is a giant-ass smoothie that you watched them put all the fruit in.

I'll never understand how bitter bean water became America's favorite drug.
They all watched Friends.

Unlike that show, people actually have to LEAVE the coffeeshop and go to WORK.

Or.. do they??

A lot of our behaviors are "social", meaning it's a thing to do because others do it.  It's also a time waster, most of us have copious free time, and want something to "do" with it, so we patronize coffee shops and bars.  A mixed drink here is anywhere from $7 to $15, I paid $22 for one once at STK.  A beer is $5-9 for basic beer, maybe draft, hopefully, and craft.  OK.

Amazing markup really.

My step son likes going to bars, he's very social, it's pretty fun to tag along with him, but the bar tab quickly gets crazy, more than a nice dinner out.

A nice dinner out is pricey of course but no dishes, good food I can't make at home, and it's a 2 hour plus experience.  My wife noted that a pleasure she would like if we were rich would be our own chef who would prepare dinner for us 3-4 times a week.  I kinda like getting out of the house some.

For the smart, lazy ones, they're steaming themselves at the coffee shop and raking the money in.  All they have to do is be hot or crazy.  If they're both, then they're rich from not working.

This is the worst reason to do anything, ever.  It virtually guarantees stress and/or boredom and/or depression and/or anger, etc.
Probably why they need that bitter bean drug every morning just to function.

Humans are social animals obviously.  I also think modern life can be boring for many,  they want something to do.  Look at how much TV we watch in a day on average.

Or spend time posting here.

Right, but if people went out and did what they wanted to do, they'd find like-minded people and enjoy themselves more.  I'm just afraid many people don't do that and just go to the bar or whatever - they just fall in line with what's popular or trending.

Be a person, not a sheep.  Right?

It's easier being a sheep obviously, which is why "we" do such things en masse.  I was musing about this seeing protests, two of them personally, in 2020, most of the protesters were white young folks, it was the thing to do to show you aren't a racist.

They then returned to their $3,000 per month apartments and coffee shops and bars to talk about how woke they are.

What else is one to do with free time?  Read a book?

Whatever they want to.
Work is an obligation, which is why they pay you.  Your leisure time shouldn't be.

You're all going to make fun of me for it, but here I am at 8:20 AM, wanting to go out for something to eat, and my options are arbitrarily limited, due to "breakfast food" being a thing.
Can I get a pizza?  No.

A burger?  No, only at Burger King.

Could I get a nice chicken caesar salad?  No.
Chinese?  No.

Yes, I could make these things, but there's no good reason I can't go out and get them besides the egg lobby and the tradition of "breakfast food."

It's a minor thing, but it is a thing.  And it's stupid.
We limit our options based on the time of day.  It's idiocy.

Modern young Americans have excess free time and often a limited imagination.  I am reminded of the show Cheers.

And Seinfeld, that diner or whatever they constantly patronized.  I don't recall an episode where any of them cooked a meal.  I didn't watch Friends, ever.

How often in a sit com is there a scene with someone preparing a meal?

If you go to one of those Greek-owned family joints you can anything you want, at any time.

This is a function also of where one lives.  I likely have more options than you, in walking distance, for example.

Shrimp and grits is a big thing here, not really my thing.  But we have a lot of nonegg options, don't tell the egg lobby.

In France, one could likely get a croissant and coffee or perhaps a tartine:

Eggs for breakfast are kind of rare there.

I’m all set to go get a breakfast burrito, but now Greek food sounds good

I didn't say eggs are the only breakfast food...but the egg industry relies on "breakfast food" being a thing.
Imagine people eating lunch and dinner food for breakfast every day.  You've cut egg usage down probably 99%+.  All eggs would be used for is ingredients in baking and a throw-in for fried rice.

Bacon has done a good job worming its way into salads and burgers.  They're at least being proactive.  But if "breakfast food" goes away, the egg industry is fukt.  Hence, they have the largest incentive to keep it going.  Which is why that have lobbyists.  Which is why you guys make fun of me.
