Just get Covid and then you have all the time in the world to post.....except that I'm producing a 30-team order for Whoa Nellie, including 20 FCS teams I get to make from scratch!

Any civil engineers want to move to Pittsburgh?
Does PA require a separate license for structural engineering? If so, I'm out.

Illinois and some other states require an SE. The PE does not cut it alone.

Kind of ironic that the POTUS was in Pittsburgh today and a bridge collapsed. Given that it's a main artery, it's a blessing nobody was hurt.

I will agree to any increased spending that actually goes into smart upgrades to our failing infrastructure

Yes. Me too

but you might want to check out where that infrastructure money is really going. You may be disappointed. If you’re thinking roads and bridges and things like that, then you will definitely be disappointed.

if you like traffic cameras to give more robotic speeding tickets, and programs to make sure contractors being hired are minorities, and things like that then you will not be disappointed.

That's why I said smart upgrades, and all to infrastructure.  Roads, bridges, railings, power grid, gas lines that were installed in the 40s, water lines leaking lead...

And just for badge...MORE DAMS!

The richest, most prodigious country the world has ever seen.....and the place is a dump.

(Checks map. It's not South Florida.)

Yeah, it checks out.

My thought many years back was to add a nickel a gallon Federal gas tax each January for some period of time, say ten years, and put the funds in the Fed Highway Trust Fund.  If gasoline prices spiked, a President could reduce the tax for a short period of time, but most wouldn't notice a nickel a gallon, and it would be dedicated to rebuilding as needed.

That said, another issue I see around here is huge sums spent rebuilding interchanges and building toll express lanes (which pay for themselves, maybe).  The I-75 toll express lanes were fabulously expensive and includes the longest bridge in the state.  Meanwhile none of that can be used for mass transit.  I'd guess for the same money one could have extended MARTA parallel to I75, but of course MARTA is not something wealthy people ride in general.  The outer counties keep voting it down.

We're lucky in this state that a lot of the roads were built fairly recently and the weather isn't as hard on the pavement.  Our sales tax here is 8.9% in part due to MARTA and TPLOST which is another tax for transportation needs by the city.

Buffett's Apple investment just went up by $9.8 billion (cnbc.com)

Sort of notable.  I know folks would like to tax this, but there is an obvious issue with that.

I need to get up and go for a short run, but it’s basically freezing outside. So getting out of bed is happening slowly.

EV vs. Gas: Is 1,000 Miles LTS the Metric of the Future? (motortrend.com)

Beyond two outliers, every EV needs between 15.3 hours (Lucid Air, 65.4 mph average) and 23.5 hours (Mini Cooper SE, 42.6 mph). That means driving a kilomile in that Lucid only takes 4 percent longer than in a combustion vehicle, whereas in the Mini you'll spend 60 percent longer on the road. The average of the DC fast-charge vehicles was 18.2 hours/55.5 mph, or 24 percent longer than the average combustion vehicle. Numbers that are sure to improve greatly over 15 more years of continuous progress in battery chemistry, EV powertrain efficiency, and charging speeds. Those outliers? The Chinese Kandi city car features a tiny battery and no DC fast-charging, so it would have to stop 19 times for a 7-hour charge each time, resulting in a 6.6-mph average speed. Road-trip torture. Similarly, a Nissan Leaf S lacking the $1,690 Quick Charge option would take 35 hours to make the trip, stopping five times for a four-hour charge, averaging 42.6 mph.
