also....is anybody else as disheartened and sad by the complete downfall and decay of Howard Stern and Stephen Colbert? These guys used to be heros of mine. It's sad as hell to see what they have become. I guess getting old and taking those fat paydays will do that to a person.
Its sad when an entertainer goes into politics instead of doing what their real job is

it's not that just, they both lost their edge.

Howard Stern was a bad boy, a die hard free speech advocate with a real edge who was anti-establishment. Now he's best friends with Hilary Clinton and is about as dangerous as walking across the street. Makes me want to vomit.

Colbert had the greatest political satire show of all-time. He went from being a real pioneer with one of the funniest tv shows ever to being an absolute hack with a show that is so cringey and dull it's impossible to watch. That's got to be part of the gig though maybe. Who really wants to see him interview celebrities about stupid bullshit? I feel like people don't even watch those stupid late night shows anymore. Carson, Leno, and Letterman used to get huge ratings back in the day. I doubt these new guys are getting even a fraction of those old guys' ratings.

It's just sad to see.

Maybe we'd do better with former athletes in office.

is wrestling a sport? are WWE wrestlers athletes? Cause I think The Rock is probably going to wind up president someday, and sooner rather than later. if he ever runs- he'll win.

single highest =/= majority. it's still roughly 30%, or should be, for most industries. restaurant industry is slightly higher at 35-40%, or should be.

and this isn't some theoretical number either. i am or have been owner/partner in several business, and that's been consistent across all of them.

and in my primary profession, we service around 4500 business clients, of which we are intimately familiar with their financials. it's consistent, at least for the successful ones.
Funny.

In my profession, labor is about 70 percent.

As for restaurants, I was talking mostly fast-food. In sit downs, you have low wages for wait staff due to tipping (I wish that would go away - just pay them and charge more).

If you look at fast food, the numbers come from everywhere.

Food costs are up due to raw packing.

It's up due to shipping - those wages are up (along with the energy required to ship).

Property taxes are up in most places.

Labor costs are up in all places.

And that is why the Big Mac meal will soon be $15.00.

And, who is driving all of these increases??

Yes but you also carry considerably more staff for a full-service restaurant.

Average profit margins for full service restaurants are in the 2-4% range, and for fast food it's 3-6%.

You should have studied art history. Labor is almost 100% in that industry... :57:

Cost of materials was the main cost where I worked.  SG&A was about 30%, and I dimly recall that compensation was about 30% of SG&A.  The cost of materials was about half of total expenses.  This is probably in line with a lot of manufacturing companies.

they should probably budget some legal fees for those botched restorations that seem to be so prevalent these days.
