check link in my reply right above yours. high of $7.09 in ma, low of $4.19 in nc. those are state averages, individual cities will vary.
Thanks.  State average doesn't really help for this particular experiment.

And I don't care enough to dig into it anyway.  But someone else might. :)

I don't have the app and the web site apparently won't show me menu prices.

And I'm not driving to Bakersfield to test it lol.
Oh come on man, roadtrips to Bakersfield are a downright pilgrimage!

quick google presented this link. https://www.restaurantbusinessonline.com/financing/why-big-mac-costs-more-seattle-austin

doesn't have san fran or la, but does have some higher cost cities vs some lower.

seattle, for example, is the highest on their list, with a big mac costing $6.39. montgomery, al is lowest at $3.69. that's a ~42% increase over the 2 locations. i don't know this, but i'd wager property value is greater or equal to 40% higher in seattle.

of course labor is part of that big mac price increase, but it's hardly the $10+ increase some propose.

this chart might be of interest.

min wage is obviously driving a cost increase, but no where near the skyrocketing hikes.

Ehhh...I'm guessing the average Alabaman is eating a lot more big macs that the average Seattlite.  Simple supply and demand is going to play into this, no?

They've been 2 for $6 here recently, so I've had a few.

compared to the Federal requirement of $7.25

BTW Biden wants the Federal amount to go to $15

Yes. And everyone is agreeing that this impacts the price of a Big Mac.

The question is how much. I don't believe that labor costs are a giant determinant in the price. Land is more expensive here. Electricity is more expensive here. The taxes to the franchise owner are higher here, so he/she must earn more profit to bring home the same income--and incomes and cost of living are higher here, so the franchise owner needs more money anyway.

There are a lot of reasons everything is expensive in California. Everything was much more expensive here than other places BEFORE the minimum wage increase occurred. The minimum wage increase is just one more factor in that calculation.

McDonald’s is just one of 1 million examples though.

And as a general rule rising labor costs are passed along to the consumer via higher prices. Otherwise businesses would be forced to reduce their profits and of course they’re not going to do that.

This does not start the inflation wheel but it definitely makes it spin faster.

that's not true at all. assuming mcd's entire payroll is min wage (it's not) and assuming they'll want to pass along 100% of increased costs (they will, probably more like 175% if history of major corps is any judge), then the cost for their payroll to effectively double would be an average increase on products sold to be around 13%. So the big mac would go from $3.99 pre-tax (as listed on their website, i haven't eaten there in i don't know how long so no clue if its slightly different), to around $4.50.

a purdue study from a few years back found it to be quite a bit less of an increase, only about 4.3% increase, or $0.17 cents to $4.16.

It's  not $10 but it's also significantly more than the 4.3% you mentioned a page ago.

I dont disagree
The question thats begging to be asked is why are various cost of sales expenses higher in California

Why are taxes higher then many other states
Why is the land more expensive then many other states
Why do utilities cost more then many other states
Why have a state minimum wage twice the federal amount

why are Californias leaders electing to do this
