NATO and a large US Army presence on the continent meant that each of the countries involved didn't need much of a standing army and could focus on building their economies instead of throwing their armies against each other at the drop of a hat, as had happened with distrubing regularity over the past 300 years.
Yeah, why stand up and unite and defend yourselves when you can just let the Americans pay for your defense? Bunch of mooching pussy Eurotrash bastards. European NATO countries spent $50 billion more on defense collectively in 2020 than they did in 2016. Can't convince me otherwise that Trump going in there and talking shit and calling them out and pressing European leaders was not the cause of that. These are rich countries that can stand on their own. Time to let them do so and stop wasting US treasure and blood. France basically left NATO in 1966 and didn't fully re-join until 2009 when Sarkozy returned France to full participation. No reason the US can't just leave too.

If Europe was the hapless, "mooching pussies," then we were the willing dick.  Expand our military industrial complex worldwide?  Yes please!!!

Unfortunately, there is a lot of truth in this. "Defense" has cost the US taxpayer ungodly sums of money, hurled this country further and further into debt, and has maimed or killed thousands of brave American soldiers- and it's basically just a racket to give welfare to a bunch of massive publicly traded defense conglomerates and smaller large to medium sized private corporations.

How did bombing Libya into the Stone Age and overthrowing Gaddafi and turning Libya into a failed state to the point where slavery now exists help "defend" the US? How did invading Iraq in 2003, completely destroying that entire country, toppling Saddam and trying to install a puppet government help "defend" the US? How did a covert CIA operation called Timber Sycamore which was an operation that kicked a civil war into high gear and was an attempt at toppling Bashar al-Assad in Syria- help "defend" the US? Fun little fact- the people the CIA was funding and arming during Operation Timber Sycamore were basically al-Qaeda/ISIS off-shoots- how in the world did that help "defend" the US? How did invading and occupying Afghanistan for 20 f**king years help "defend" the US? It didn't. How does continually drone bombing the shit out of 9 countries right now "defend" the US? It doesn't.

None of it makes any sense. Burn it all to the ground. Destroy the CIA, FBI, and NSA into a million tiny little pieces and start over. Cut all military aid to foreign countries. Withdrawal from NATO. Make it illegal for former US intelligence and military to get jobs as lobbyists and as news media contributors. I cringe and my blood boils every-time I see John Brennan or James Clapper on MSNBC or CNN. These people should be in jail, not getting paid fat contracts to be on tv. There's a lot of shit we can do to change things. The people nor the politicians have the will to change it.

Biden calls a reporter a dumb son of a bitch for asking a question about inflation. Over-reaction much? Is the 80 year old dementia patient off his meds?

Funny how you don't see wall to wall coverage 24/7 on MSNBC and CNN or a million articles in Washington Post and New York Times how he's vile, crass, and mean to reporters and is disrupting norms and just an all-around bad guy for being hostile to tv reporters. I call them tv reporters because they are not real reporters. They are more like actors.

I know there's a set of people in Ukraine who would prefer to be in Russia.  Does it make too much sense to re-draw the border a bit and have Russia buy the land?
Win-win?
Outrageous!!

it's an odd situation. Both peoples trace their origin to Kievan Rus' - all the way back in the 9th century. They have a common history, for sure. Ukrainians are basically Diet Russian. Or Russian Lite if you will. Extremely similar language, same majority Eastern Orthodox religion, similar architecture, customs, culture, food, etc.. They are far more similar than they are different. And that makes sense, as for like 300+ years Ukraine was part of the Russian Empire and then the USSR. It's only been the last 30 years or so that they've even been, you know, a country.

former US Senator Bill Bradley broke this whole NATO/Russia issue down beautifully all the way back in 2008. Dude basically called what's going on now and why expansion of NATO would lead to what we're seeing now.
