You hosting?
We typically host Christmas Eve, but this year the plan was to go to my wife's friend's house because she's got a 4 year old and an infant, so we thought it would be easier. That also is easier as our giant dog won't terrorize the 4 year old.

But we just learned last night that the little one has RSV, so we're going to have to postpone until Jan 1.

Now I'm in a quandary. I *think* I could describe the leg of lamb as being packed in cryovac, so I can probably just keep it refrigerated until then. Or, I can debone it, roll it, and twine it up, vac-seal and freeze it until ~2 days before to defrost.

I think I'm going to just keep it refrigerated. I hate freezing meat when I don't have to, especially when it's for a special event.

BTW I also got some Kasseri cheese to light on fire. Opa!

Temecula has some nice wine places. Not too far from your domicile.

Yeah, been there a handful of times.

Now that we're no longer estranged from my brother, we'll probably end up out there with them at some point. They go out there more often than we do and I think they're a member at one of the places.

We actually have a couple of decent wineries right here in Orange County too. If anyone here happens to find your way out to visit this sh!thole state, let me know and I'll show ya around...

I feel like you shared some of those details, but I don't remember them clearly and am not asking after them. But I highlight this to say, I am happy to hear about the bolded, even if my lack of details is probably papering over something far more complex.

I visited back in 1976.  Family 3 week driving vacation from NW Iowa.  I was 14 and doing some of the driving.

we hit Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm, then headed for the Grand Canyon.
If/when I get back to Cali, I'd rather be north of Orange County or south of there

As suspected,  Russ Rose is retiring.  (2 million years at Penn St.  7 ncaa vball titles). I've interviewed him many times.   Grade A smart ass, great quote, incredible coach.

Yeah, it's good that it's handled. Especially since we're two Chicago->CA transplants and now live about 15-20 minutes apart.

Orange County is a pretty boring place to visit, to be honest. People with kids like Disney & Knott's, and adults who grew up here usually have a very sentimental attachment to Disney. But beyond that, OC has some nice beach communities but so does the entire rest of the state. OC is a great place to live, San Diego is a better place to visit. (San Diego County is also a nice place to live BTW--not knocking it.)

Although I'd amend your statement... I'd rather be north of LA County or south of Orange County. LA sucks.

agreed, when I said north I meant at least as far north as Santa Barbara

been to San Diego a couple times - Torrey Pines golf course is great but maybe a bit over rated

I'm amazed at the depth and breadth of the obsession over some spoiled grape juice.  Although it's no more silly than obsessing over 20 year olds playing football.

We came back a day early, the weather unusually went south.  And we leave for Orlando Christmas Day to meet up with grandkids from France.

Not my favorite city of course but they should like it.

I'm rather glad we came back early really, I've never seen weather that bad in Hawaii on the Kohala Coast.

I've heard that freaky people will argue for days over the regional differences and relative quality of BBQ, too.

https://247sports.com/college/nebraska/LongFormArticle/Big-Ten-football-coaches-unveil-favorite-Christmas-movie-179031876/#179031876_3

The Big Ten Network polled almost all of the Big Ten coaches at Big Ten Media Days and asked which Christmas movie topped their list.

SCOTT FROST, NEBRASKA

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Scott Frost sticks with some of his Big Ten West comrades, but he also likes Love Actually which gives him some major brownie points with the "Rom-Coms Are Good" Hyve.

TOM ALLEN, INDIANA

Home Alone. The fact that Tom Allen is the only Big Ten coach to pick Home Alone is an absolute crime. The Wet Bandits are coming to their houses and Kevin McAlister will not be there to protect them.

KIRK FERENTZ, IOWA

N/A. Kirk Ferentz punted on the answer which was so on brand because everyone knows that Iowa punts to win. So Ferentz is the real winner here. But now the question remains: Has Ferentz ever watched a movie? Or does he just spend every waking breathing second figuring out different ways to kick the snot out of Iowa State? If that's the case, then you just have to tip your cap. Iowa has beaten the Cyclones six years in a row and 10 out of the last 13 times.
