My cousin works for Google so I suppose I don't hate it. I did just cancel Apple TV. May get it again when Ted Lasso comes back, but the quality was shockingly bad. Some of the shows would stutter constantly, which from Googling appears to be a frequent problem with the service.
I don't have a problem with Google. Just won't touch FB.

Never had those issues with AppleTV...

FB is weird. Hated by everyone, kind of adored by all sides in a way. Generally bumbling, oddly powerful and an easy target on which to paint one's feelings on.

I'm consistent, in that I don't have a FB account.

I love FB, it allows me to post pictures of the kids and keep all of the relatives updated, without actually having to interact with them.  As a bona fide misanthrope, I love its convenience for staying in touch with people, but not TOO close.

People who get wrapped up in it or offended by what they read, are doing it to themselves.  It's very simple for me to ignore the stupid crap on there, it doesn't affect my day at all.

I have never had a FB, TWIT, or Insta account.

Just a personal choice.

Yeah do these people talk to others, like some sort of Neanderthal? I saw your feed, and your new cat or whatever, no need for small talk.

Nah, the FB account allows me to pursue my misanthropic ways without interference from humans.  It's really quite brilliant.

Other marvelous inventions for the misanthrope:
Online shopping and contactless delivery for pretty much anything including groceries
Online ordering and contactless delivery from restaurants
Online ordering and curbside pickup for restaurants
Work-from-home enabled by Teams/Zoom/Skype meetings.
Online ordering and assigned seating for movie theaters

The list goes on and on.  What a time to be alive!

It's the home of the "influencer" therefore I actually consider it far, far worse than FB.

Twitter is the worst of all though, for sure.  Especially considering its small user base compared to the other two, its impact is dramatically outsized.

I agree with the many benefits.  The drawback for me is not getting offended by what people post, it's how facebook operates to promote or suppress whatever their flavor of the day is, and selling our personal info.  I'm not a fan of gaslighting, and I'm not a fan of "them" trying to filter your reality for you because they know best.  There are genuine business reasons operating on the principles of a free market for them to behave this way.  I don't oppose that.  There are also ideological reasons why they behave that way.  I do have a problem with that.

I've tried getting people to follow me to another platform like MeWe, but like any mega-monolithic ubiquitous paradigm of society, it's very slow going to get people to change what they're already doing.

If everyone left FB I'd just cancel my account and shut it down.  I don't have the energy to get involved with another platform.  That transition from MySpace to FB was painful enough... ;)
