I agree, but that didn't stop the price of tires going up substantially years ago when crude prices jumped and gasoline prices spiked

gasoline eventually came back down, tires didn't

probably because of manufacturing costs, shipping, inventory, taxes ...

Well, tire makers generally are not very profitable.

Tires are pretty cheap for a Prius. If I still had my old Ranger, I'll bet I could get a set pretty cheap for that too.

IMHO tire prices haven't gone up so much, as I've started owning vehicles with bigger rims that require fancier tires...

My 1973 Nova had 14" rims.  My 2018 Caddy had 19" rims, and problems with tires.

Go with smaller rims, 17-18" is just fine, you get nothing beyond that but bad acceleration times.

It was 20 yrs ago today that Jim Tressel took the Scarlett & Gray into A.A. and shook the Michigan Monkey off of the Buckeyes backs 26-20.Lifting the Curse of John Cooper

It was 50 years ago Tonite that DB Cooper jumped out of a Boeing 727 - Northwest Orient Flight 305 and into History with $200,000 and never to be seen again - at least by authorities

Yeah but the dubs on my Flex look cooler than 17-18" rims...

...and it ain't wheels keeping that pig from having fast acceleration times :57:

I thought you were allergic to IPA.

Prices shouldn't have spiked in the beers you buy. They barely wave a couple hop cones over the kettle during the boil, not actually put them in there :57:

Moved from the Covid thread.

We should close this thread, 847 is tired of blaming everything on Covid.
I don't blame everything on Covid. I'm tired of it being used as a crutch. It's very simple to me. It is now being used as a tool to rule.

Some people like to be controlled. I certainly don't.

And you?

What is your alternative to my advocating that we all move on and live our lives?

My life here is pretty much the same as preCOVID.  There are some minor changes that don't bother me.

I think it very clear our drop in oil production was a result of the economic collapse due to the shutdowns due to COVID.  I realize for some they face vaccine mandates and perhaps other restrictions that are onerous, but I'm not affected by any of that.

I suppose if I were anti-vax my life would be affected.  The very large computer manufacturing company that I work for, is complying with the Federal vaccine requirements for companies of 100+.  Which means they did ask me to provide proof of vaccination.  Not a huge deal for me, but others feel it's an overreach and I can't say I blame them.

Other than that, only minor changes here as well.  Some folks wear masks, some don't.  Very few businesses require them anymore. Bars and restaurants are at full capacity, movie theaters are filling up again.

Other than the skyrocketing inflation and supply chain disruptions (that I'm now estimating won't resolve until the second half of next year), life is pretty much back to normal for us here.
