Not only that, but I heard the story of the guy who lost like 10 millions dollars of cryptocurrency because he couldn't remember his password. This feels like something that would happen to me.
That sort of happened to me.
Back when EA Sports lost to Ed O'Bannon, they cut everyone a check who bought NCAA football video games (for some reason).  So I get a check for a couple of hundred dollars for playing video games!
Then I lost it.
I found it about 2 years later half-disentigrated under my passenger car seat.

What's an NFT?
It's a non-fungible token.

Basically it's a way to authenticate digital art such that there's only one, and maintain unfalsifiable records of ownership via blockchain.

Similar, but that could also be faked.

Imagine you're buying a Mickey Mantle rookie card. You want to be 100% sure that card is real and not fake. The better our technology gets, the more likely it is that a fake will be SO good that it evades any ability we have to determine legitimacy.

In this case the determination of legitimacy and ownership is effectively impossible to fake.

It looks like these trade on Ethereum, and assuming the NFT is also on the Ethereum blockchain, in order to fake the blockchain without detection, you would have to own >50% of all Ethereum in the entire world.

But what makes it silly is that anyone would spend $200K for a cartoon ape. It's not a Monet, or even a Manet, or even a Mickey Mantle rookie card.

I am most skeptical about how this evolves.

The technology of blockchain is important. The idea of making ownership of unique assets non-falsifiable is going to be important.

The application of most NFTs are just stupid and evidence of people with too much money not having anything useful to to do with it.

LeBron, still a little bitch.  Love the player, but man what a little bitch.  Sucker punch a guy in the eye, and then hide behind your teammates instead of answering for it

Well that's the middle aged way - get your shot in and get out. The man has a bald spot the size of a dinner plate you can't get mad at him for being smart
