I was happy the Braves won their division and figured that was that, they had the fewest wins of any playoff team, and some key injuries.  But they got hot in early August and somehow prevailed.  Some probably don't think they should even have been in the playoffs.

I have a lot of friends that were pulling for the Astros.  They seemed disappointed today.  I don't really follow MLB so it doesn't matter to me.

The past couple of years we've set up our Halloween candy distribution in the driveway, so people aren't tempted to walk through the yard, where I have a lot of decorations with guy wires, electrical cords, and whatnot, that are completely invisible in the dark.

So this year, since the Dallas Cowboys were playing a Sunday Night Football game during peak trick or treating hours, I set up a TV in my driveway, so I could watch the game at the same time. Quite a few dads (and even a couple of moms)  stopped by to catch some of the game, and I had a cooler full of beer for any adults that wanted to partake.

But there was this one guy who asked me if I could change the TV to the world series game.  I just looked at him, shook my head, and told him to get the hell off my lawn.

No beer for you!

I still enjoy baseball, it had fallen away when the Braves got bad, which is normal I suppose.  Going back to fantasy camp brought a lot back.  You can't have fantasy camp for football or basketball, really only baseball can do it.  We have a great group of guys.  This city had only one pro championship ever aside from soccer, 1995.  This makes two.  Folks are pretty excited about it, many anyway.

Not drinking alcohol significantly increases the risk of developing multiple sclerosis (MS), especially if a person is also a current or former smoker, according to a new study.

These findings add to the knowledge, discovered in multiple previous studies, that alcohol decreases the activity of the immune system. According to the researchers, this may account for the known connection between alcohol consumption and reduced MS risk — given that MS is characterized by an over-active immune system.

While these new data “are relevant for clinical practice and give no support for advising healthy individuals with MS heredity, or individuals with MS, to completely refrain from alcohol,” they also don’t support increasing alcohol consumption, the researchers said.

“Consumption of alcohol has detrimental effects on other disease conditions, and better understanding of the mechanisms behind our findings may help to define ways to achieve protection against MS by other means than alcohol consumption,” they wrote.

The Wild Experimental Engine That Uses Gas and Diesel (roadandtrack.com)

It's a concept developed by the University of Wisconsin-Madison that in lab testing has achieved 60 percent thermal efficiency. That means this engine is converting 60 percent of its fuel used into power rather than waste energy—a much higher number than any automotive engine in production today. For context, Toyota has a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder that achieves a remarkable 40 percent thermal efficiency, while Mercedes-AMG's F1 power unit achieves 50 percent.

An RCCI uses two fuel injectors per cylinder to mix a low-reactivity fuel, like gas, with a high-reactivity fuel, like diesel. Theoretically you could mix any low- and high-reactivity fuels for RCCI to occur, but gas and diesel is perhaps the most interesting combination.

I think folks continue to explore ways of keeping IC engines extant and less polluting, which strikes me as worthy.

an official noted is not technically a vaccine mandate, as businesses can also choose to make regular testing and mask-wearing an option.

The mandate, which applies to businesses with at least 100 employees and is expected to cover 84 million people, was developed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Senior administration officials said OSHA’s emergency temporary standard (ETS) to enact the mandate is “well within OSHA’s authority under the law and consistent with OSHA's requirements to protect workers from health and safety hazards, including infectious diseases.”
