I'm extremely angry at folks who  get extremely angry about politics, and then do nothing beyond whining.  I can't even begin.

Makes me so mad.

Sounds about right - you get a lot of people extremely angry about politics but rather unable to articulate what is making them so angry
This.

I believe politics are not far off a the standard bell curve.  Some large % not far from the center, and some much smaller % near both left and right edges.

Unfortunately, it gets exacerbated because the voices most heard are from both social media and ALL main stream media, and they are out near the edges.

So the folks near the middle get angry because, although can happily exist in a conversation not far off center- they are deluged with the message from the far edge opposite them.

It leads to this polarization and this “ pick one side or the other and fight” mentality.

Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

I call this the difference between NOISE and SUBSTANCE, we hear a lot of noise from the fringes, while most of us are centrists for the most part.  Few centrists are sufficiently "engaged" to expound on social media.

Yes.  Like never in my case and numerous others here I’d venture to guess.

I want to know where they're getting the energy to be that angry all of the time. Being angry wipes you out.

I've seen various research that concluded that in politics, liberals and conservatives generally want the same things, but disagree on the order of priorities and how best to achieve the goals.  That seems right, in my experience.

There are extremes on either side who don't appear to want the same things as the most people.
Exactly. We all want the same things. We just hate the people who root for the other team.

You would think a rudimentary search would have found this and killed the idea right on the spot.
What's funny is they haven't really operated since 2018, but now have been updating their website.   Nice attempt at a money grab and I don't blame them.

When talking about economic disparity in the United States, politicians and advocates tend to focus on the top 0.01% and the bottom 90%.

An influential percentage of the population exists between those two demographics: The 9.9%, or the “semi-rich,” according to philosopher Matthew Stewart, author of “The 9.9 Percent: The New Aristocracy That Is Entrenching Inequality and Warping Our Culture.”

The net worth of that group ranges from about $1.2 million to $20 million per household, Stewarts says. Those assets include cash savings and investments, as well as real estate. Many members of the 9.9% don’t feel enormously wealthy but they are still doing better than the vast majority of the country.

“The interesting thing about this class is that it’s held even,” Stewart says. “People who make it in that group tend to hold on to their cash. People above that have seen their fortunes triple and people below that have seen their wealth decline.”

What are some indicators, aside from money, that someone is in the 9.9%?
The cultural things are hard to identify or describe, but I think we know them. Education is clearly one big identifier. They tend to be education-focused. The highly educated, especially people with advanced degrees, have done particularly well.

The second is housing. One of the surest ways to accumulate the wealth that lands in the 9.9% is to have bought housing in the right places.
On balance, they tend to be more in the professional and managerial kinds of roles. It’s not that everyone in the 9.9% is that. There are lots of small business owners, but the core of the people have found a niche in a professional hierarchy.

I assume most of us here are the semi-rich 9.9%

Yes.  Like never in my case and numerous others here I’d venture to guess.

I've found that social media in general is a poor platform for any meaningful discussion.  Even if people were more civil.

If yall think I'm TLDR on a sports forum, you should try having a conversation with me.  I take like 20 minutes to lay out points, anticipate counterpoints and try to answer them.

Ain't nobody got time for that.
