My most hated word misuse is "supposably".....which isn't a word at all, to my knowledge.  It's "supposedly."  I'd estimate maybe 70-75% say it wrong.

And the pronunciation of "colonel" makes me want to put up my fists and fight.

You should hear the French say "colonel".

I hate that one as well, but don't hear it from anywhere near that many people. Maybe 20% in my circles?

The one I hate is "might of" or "could of" instead of "have".

There's a guy on another board that always says "rather" in place of "whether." Very peculiar.

Then there are of course those people that place their periods outside of their quotation marks as though they were question marks or exclamation points.... :d030:

My pet grammar mistake is using a helping verb with the word went

You use helping verbs with gone not went

He went to the store is fine

He could have went to the store is not

should be could have gone

I have a friend who mutilates the old idiom, "Six of one, half a dozen of the other."

Instead, he says, "One half dozen of the other."

He is an otherwise intelligent and well-read person.  I have no idea why he does this.

Back in the '70s Miller Lite did a commercial like this. Some guy I think named norm  "people say I misrenounce things all the time......" he goes on to butcher his take but I'd never heard of him before or since
Suburbia:Where they tear out the trees & then name streets after them.

He could just be alluding to the phrase and saving time on it.  Either you get the reference and know the full phrase or you don't and go on about your business.

I also like to type how I speak.
And everyone needs to keep in mind that language is fluid, so while there are rules you can adhere to, they are only the rules for a moment in time.

Supposably there are rules, but I'm not so certain.

I hope that they were just screwing with me, but doubt it.
