Yup mine has a variable speed pump and is programmed to run at different speeds throughout the day.  It runs higher when the Polaris is cleaning, and runs at slower speeds the rest of the day.

I also sometimes run the waterfalls overnight, it helps cool the water.  They have their own, separate pump.

That is news to me.  ( the cooling part) I like the idea of running the waterfall so it cools it!  Thanks/ will give it a try because this time of year it would be great to cool it a couple degrees.

A waterfall would encourage evaporation which sucks heat from the liquid water.

Running the jets on the hot tub (not in spa mode, of course) also helps cool down.

Moving water through cooler night air cools it off.  When air temp is below pool water temp.  Which is basically every single night from June through September.

More surface area, more heat exchange, more evaporative cooling, which I could use right now, just back from a run.

They actually make sprayers that you can hook into your jets, that perform a similar function.  If I didn't have the waterfalls, I'd consider getting some of those.

Our pool is really warm now, the building reflects the sun on to it and it's south facing.

I have very little shade over the pool during the hottest part of the day.  The good news is, that means I don't have trees that are dropping all their funk into the pool.  The bad news is, it warms up quickly and stays warm, throughout the summer.
