Yeah we have two A/Cs as well.  All electric on the A/C, the gas runs the furnace in the winter.

I also have a pool and during the summer the primary pump runs 8 hours per day, every day, and that uses a decent amount of electricity on top of the A/C.

yep that will sure increase your bill

do you use a pool service or do the maint yourself?

Ditto almost to the penny.  Pool runs 8 hours- A/C ( 2 units) close to year round- 24/7

I'm a little embarrassed to say I use a service.  It's really something I should do myself, but I don't.  I justify it by saying I'm helping the local economy... ;)

Nothing wrong with that. I was doing the same thing except for I fired them purely for lack of good performance. My better half loves doing it so she does it and takes way better care of it then the pool company did.

I've read up on it and it seems pretty straightforward. My 13yo daughter expressed an interest in it when I told her I'd pay her the same as I pay my service, and that once she learned how, there are probably a dozen pools of our friends and neighbors nearby that she could service as well, and make really good money on her own schedule.  She started studying up on it and I think she wants to pull the trigger on it next spring/summer.  She'd rather do that than babysit.

My electric bill is around $350 in the summer months.  That's 3800 sqft, with A/C running all day long.

1200sf here and no pool...

We have 2300 sf and two heat pumps, both are "water sourced" which means they are really efficient.  But two of our sides are other units, or the hall, so we don't have much exposure, and are north and east facing.  I have been delighted at how low my e bills have been (no gas).

I'll mention again how much I love this inductive cooktop stove.

We're exploring new restaurants on Wednesdays now, using the Atlanta magazine top list, if I can get a reservation.  We tried Miller Union last night, which was rated "#1".  If so, the dining scene here isn't much.  Now MU was very good and interesting, and maybe that's the deal, but it is rather casual, service was not "elite", food was not that expensive, ours were $28 each for the entree, wine list was pretty awesome but they had no bottles under about $60 and one DRC was $2550.

So, nice meal, interesting approach, decent ambience, decent service, no tablecloths, not that far to drive, they have outside dining, but not something I'd go far out of my way to eat at.  There really is something about French restaurants that the US have yet to emulate in my experience, even at our fine dining places.  Restaurant L in Cincy got close, but they closed.  Their chef is French and a friend of ours, he was down with cancer for a while.

Yikes, and you hit in the 300s this month?  Whew.

Our previous house was 1400 sqft and our electric ran about $200 in summer.  Maybe $50 in the winter.

We'd exceed $300 a month in summer and winter in the Cincy house, efficient gas furnace and AC unit, both new.  We touched $400 a few months.

That was a regular house and had vaulted ceilings with uncertain insulation.  Nice house really, I liked it a lot.

Yeah, I'm always dubious about such lists, but for me it's a place to start.  The Cincy Magazine list was actually pretty good, and I was "in the biz" back then, our place hit #17.  The top places were well known and regarded.  The ATL Mag seems to include a lot of very casual places, which is fine with me, but different.  Conde Nast has a lot of overlap.  Anyway, the places are at least interesting.

Lists out of Trip Advisor et al. are useless.

when we replaced our air conditioners with current models the energy efficiency was huge

todays models use about 60% to 70% less electricity

Yeah, we were hitting $350 last summer. Replaced the windows with impact/UV, 3 feet of insulation in the attic, new AC unit and air handler. New automated variable speed pumps for the pool, and solar for the pool.

Highest bill this summer is $172.

No gas here - all electric (induction is awesome).
