https://inequality.org/great-divide/global-billionaire-pandemic-wealth-surges/

The world's billionaires have seen their combined wealth increase by $5.5 trillion during the COVID pandemic (March 2020-July 2021) from roughly $8 trillion up to $13.5 trillion, drawing on data from Forbes. This is actually probably an undercounting, as there are more billionaires out there that Forbes doesn't even know about.

Total wealth by billionaires has increased more in the past 17 months than it has in the previous FIFTEEN YEARS COMBINED. This is alarming to say the least. Income inequality and the wealth gap in this country has never been higher. Ever. This is a very bad thing. For everyone. Even the mega wealthy. Why? This will just lead to collapse of society and maybe even government one day. There will be a reckoning and realignment in this country. It's bound to happen if we continue on this pace. This kind of inequality is not sustainable and it's not what America was about in the 40's, 50's, and 60's when it was truly the greatest nation on earth. Hasn't been for awhile if you ask me.

The rich use every loophole provided them to avoid paying their full tax rate, and the insanely wealthy like Bezos don't even pay any tax because well they just get the big banks to borrow them hundreds of millions of dollars a clip to fund their larger than life lifestyles- all secured against their shares of stock- and oh yeah by the way they get INSANE interest rates below 1%- sometimes even as low as .02%- that they wouldn't give anybody else. Anybody that actually needs a loan- bank would tell them to pound sand or ask for their 1st born and charge them 30% interest. Almost a quarter- 22.5% of the big banks total loan books are now these types of 0% interest loans to ultra-wealthy. Up from 16% just 4 years ago. JP Morgan & Citi are now lending more money to a small group of ultra-high networth clients than they are to their tens of millions of credit card customers. 10 years ago JP Morgan was lending 5x as much to it's credit card customers as it did to ultra-high networth private clients.

Why do they do it? Big banks scratch people like Bezos backs and then he in turn scratches their backs by steering all their corporate banking business. This is all filthy and disgusting and should be illegal. The US taxpayer bailed out big banks for this crap? Man.

Some of them make an earnest effort, I've given it a trifle of thought and believe it's tough to find worthy causes, it's a full time job.

My definition of wealthy is having enough money to need no income.  As we tax income (except at death), that means a wealthy person can easily avoid taxes.

And if they want some income, they can buy municipal bonds, and as noted, never sell any assets.  I don't know the interest rate they would pay on say stocks, right now leveraging stocks does have a low rate for everyone.  And they can also donate appreciated assets, I've done that myself, to offset some taxable income.

They will pay property taxes and sales taxes of course.

I'm sure they have staff for everything onerous, but I find finding good charitable causes to be somewhat problematic, personally, obviously with a far far smaller charitable fund.  I've been donating to the park, the botanical garden, the symphony, and the homeless shelter, Atlanta Mission.

Did you see the videos of Taliban in the opulent palaces the US backed warlords that fled? Taj Mahal looking estates owned by corrupt warlords all paid for via US taxpayer. Crazy.
