I think both "sides" want to "dictate to others" how to live.

It's inherent.  And they rarely listen to the other side seriously, as they are too busy in their mind denigrating what they THOUGHT they heard and posing a response.

Maybe they act startled to discover there are so many people with views dictating the behavior of others that have nothing to do with them?
No, that's not it.

the recall election

will a dem or a rep win?
It'll be interesting. That's a system that is not incumbent-friendly. I saw some analysis that argued that a demo candidate running would alienate the sitting governor and some power brokers, which seems deeply dumb to me in that arrangement.

How is the gay couple wanting to get married dictating to others how to live?
Or the woman wanting autonomy over her own body?

The entire regulatory state is a liberal creation.  Laws against smoking, laws limiting the size of soft drinks, "free speech" areas on campus (because on the rest of campus free speech is not allowed), the vast panoply of laws justified as protecting us from ourselves, that's all liberal stuff.
It's hard for someone to see how his side infringes on the other, but very easy for him to see how the other side infringes on him.

It's weird that you quoted my post, but didn't address anything in it, lol.

Weird.  I thought you were asking rhetorical questions.  LOL.

The Left is very tolerant, so long as you agree with them on absolutely everything.

If the bolded two are large insignias of the "regulatory state," it seems like that term doesn't mean much.

-The soft drink law was basically a one-off that never went into effect. It was passed with a grace period and then declared illegal.
-Free speech areas are ... I don't know that one can really call them a product of either side of the spectrum. They're anti-protesting measures, i.e., they limit the places on campus where people can protest (not really a case of the rest of campus not allowing free speech). They're most likely illegal and should be done away with, but the idea that a protest can't disrupt a lecture without consequence dovetails quite well with conservative outlooks on protest.

Cincy said it well, I think. Folks on both sides infringe in different ways. Sometimes when they do it, they say it's for the sake of "freedom."

No, rhetorical questions let them off the hook.  I want answers.  They don't come.

wake up, bud.  US citizens are the dangerous enemy now.  The caricature of the turban-wearing Arab with a shoe bomb isn't taking lives today.  Rufus the town fix-it guy, with his 'don't treat on me' flags waving high IS.  WAKE UP!  If you have nothing to hide, then you're not being surveilled.  And if you are, then it's a waste of time and that program needs to be corrected.  The point is, an non-descript American citizen can be just as much of a threat as the guy you're still wary of when getting on a plane with a name you can't pronounce.
Ok, I feel like I'm being trolled. Nobody can be this crazy/ignorant/dumb. Right?

Neither party is catering to the prudent citizens of the country.  No news outlet is telling it like it is.  And no one who should be in power seeks it out.  God bless 'Murica.
Probably the most factual/correct thing you've ever written on here. The news media doesn't exist to tell it like it is. It is a sophisticated propaganda machine designed to manufacture consent and turn citizens into obedient consumers.

There aren't two parties, both have been bought and paid for by the same owners and they agree on just about everything. We don't have democracy in this country, we don't have real choice in this country, we have the illusion of choice.

George Carlin was right on the money when he said America is a big country club, and you ain't in it.

With the Carlin quote I believe that you have stumbled across the reason that Fro is such a devoted little foot soldier for Biden, Pelosi, et al. It makes him feel like he is part of the group of people that are calling the shots, instead of just a peon. That way he is one of the oppressors, not one of the oppressed.

Some people are willing to be told what to think and when to think it, in order to improve their perceived lot in life.
