My friend, there are primarily two reasons. And the man in charge did not eliminate the income tax (been that way since before any of us were born), nor did he make it a place without winter.
This is not to speak on his politics or whatnot. But that place has been where NYers have been going forever. Not sure about Illinois. Ca I think is in large part rising taxes, but also a more interconnected world. It's never been more easy to be a continent away and feel like you're not (signed, someone a continent away from home who acknowledges he won't be able to afford his way back unless he inherits a house).
Have to disagree. And believe me- I wish people weren’t flooding in here
Came in in January of 16. Was recruited to a job I really liked. I live in an area where people “winter” so it was seasonal. Bustling December- April, deserted the rest of the year.
it’s not like that now. Bustling would be a 5 level downgrade. People are moving here at a pace none of the locals can believe. And they are starting businesses- in many cases moving their business. I talk to these people- I have to for my job. I also talk to them casually like when I dine out or golf, etc.
it goes way beyond no personal income tax. The business climate is welcoming, including taxes, the housing and new construction market is robust, and other industries are ripping it.
But people are leaving the big cities in fear of crime, higher taxes, anti law enforcement craziness- all the things you see on video.
Yes- Florida has been a destination for a long time- but the intense pace going on is other worldly and that started shortly after the pandemic. There are tangible reasons people are leaving one place and going to others at a record pace.
As I was typing all of that I learned from the local news that Amazon announced it’s opening its newest fulfillment center about 15 minutes up the street from me creating 500 new jobs. That’s the third major fulfillment center to be added to this market in the last few months and that’s just this market.
They are not doing that because of no personal income tax or weather, they are going where the business climate is the best and where the economy demands their services.
