thats just not true and I challenge you to back that up with a source
This is a slippery slope, but when you look at income tax paid versus total wealth, it's not much.

Again, slippery slope. To start talking about taxing total wealth is, to me, dangerous.

US super-rich 'pay almost no income tax' - BBC News
US super-rich 'pay almost no income tax' - BBC News

He said US billionaires buy an asset, build one or inherit a fortune, and then borrow against their wealth.

Because they don't realise any gains or sell any stock, they're not taking any income, which could be taxed.
"They then borrow from a bank at a relatively low interest rate, live off that and can use the interest expenses as deductions on their income," he said.

You can disparage the linked site of course, but this makes abundant sense.  Why pay taxes if you don't need to?  They have specialists doing their taxes and handling their money, they don't do it, and these guys know the tricks.

we are on the same page

if someone is paying all taxes required by law anything more is just communism

taking from the rich to give to the poor sounds good on paper ( see the communist manifesto)

but is not the answer

instead of lowering a persons take home income because they are wealthy

we should be trying to increase a persons take home income because they are poor

so what if they inherited wealth that taxes have already been paid on do we want to tax it again

again wanting to reach out and grab some ones wealth just cause its there is against what this country stands for
and is communistic in practice

if we dont like the tax law we should change it

by using the word tricks you make it seem illegal when its not

The issue is we don't tax wealth (except on death), and it may be unconsitutional to have a wealth  tax.

The term "tricks" does not imply it's illegal, I never indicated any of this is, it's obviously legal and it's what the super wealthy do because it's legal.

my point is that the super wealthy dont play tricks they follow tax law just like you and I or should be prosecuted accordingly

you made my point exactly when you said you dont tax wealth just cause its there

The term "trick" is interesting.  We talk about "trick plays" for example, that are entirely within the rules of course.  That is the same as "tricks" for lowering one's income tax liability.  Municipal bonds for example are one kind of "trick".

Not having income is perhaps the best trick.

I could live "a while" with no income myself.  Wouldn't be prudent.

whats interesting is that you could tax all the super wealthy at 100% and it wouldnt put a dent in the new proposed infrastructure bill being proposed

so the excuse of taxing the wealthy more to pay for this new bill as the President has proposed has no merit

taxing the wealthy more is just a buzz phrase to get political support

FYI, none of Biden's proposals deal with taxing wealth.  Warren has proposed a wealth tax, not Joe.

It would be difficult to pull off, other countries have tried it and most reversed the move for obvious reasons.

I don't think anyone can seriously tax the super wealthy, they can always dodge it.  Incidentally, Sweden has more billionaires per capita than does the US.

I have a high income but not a ton of wealth...

I'd like to have the reverse in 20+ years...

...but the income taxes sure do make it a hell of a lot harder to build wealth.
