A veterinarian in China has become the first person in the country to contract and die of the extremely rare Monkey B virus, Chinese officials said last weekend, according to reports.

The veterinarian, 53, suffered severe nausea and a fever two months after dissecting two monkeys at a breeding research institute in Beijing and died on May 27, according to the Washington Post.

The Monkey B virus, also known as the Herpes B virus, usually comes from contact with a macaque monkey and can cause severe brain damage or death, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

ore than 200 people in 27 states are being monitored for possible exposure to monkeypox after they had contact with an individual who contracted the disease in Nigeria before traveling to the United States this month, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. To date, no additional cases have been detected.

For the fourth year in a row, Finland topped the list of the World Happiness Report.

If this is surprising to you —  after all, Finland is known for its brutally cold winters and limited daylight — know that some of the people of Finland are just as amazed.

"Finland is not an overtly happy-go-lucky or worry-free place," said Tom Lippo, founder of Fact Law, a law firm with offices in Finland and the US. "Finns are reserved. For example, the Finnish language has a common phrase that's loosely translated as 'one who smiles for no good reason,' and that is not a compliment. So Finns have been shocked to learn that they are so happy!"

The annual survey from Gallup looks at six key factors: GDP per capita, social support, life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, and corruption levels. Finland scores well in all of these categories, although it does particularly well with the generosity factor.

Start with making more stuff here. This past year has made it painfully obvious that this needs to happen.
can't have that- then large multi-national corporations wouldn't be entitled to make the record profits they do year over year.

US multi-nationals sold out this country, it's future, and it's people. All-time record profits were generated by cutting millions and millions of jobs here that paid liveable wages in order to replace them with virtual slave labor in China, Mexico, Vietnman, etc., etc..

Huge wealth was generated by off-shoring, and all of it went to very small, select group of people. The wealth inequality in this country is a freaking joke. We're living at wealth inequality levels that surpass even the Gilded Age. This is shameful.

It's somewhat an inflated and misguided approach.  The most of the richest people in America invented something or did something that the rest couldn't do.  And I'd even venture that they made most of our lives better for it.  Sure, there's a lot of heirs on there that didn't do squat, but so what?

"Wage earners" is the key term. Most of the very wealthy pay very little in taxes, by comparison.

My definition of "wealthy" is someone who needs no income to maintain his lifestyle.

No income, no income tax.

the path to a better society is not to attack the wealthy

in fact we should be encouraging folks to become rich cause it means they succeeded in this country through their own efforts

efforts should instead be made to ensure its an even playing field with an emphasis on discouraging discrimination

The difference is between "the very wealthy" and "high wage earners".

It is true the "very wealthy" have many options when it comes to avoiding taxable income.  High wage earners do not, unless it's illegal.
