Its funny you should mention ND

I had a guy working under me one time that graduated from ND and he was the most arrogant person Ive ever been around
One day I had to tell him it was my way or the highway and he chose the later which I was all too willing to help him with
most arrogant Engineer I worked with was from UT-Austin

no surprise to most

well he had a good reason
he actually wasn't the most arrogant, but I couldn't resist

he was the most entitled.  Would sit in his cube with his boots on his desk and tell folks that he wasn't about to work real hard, because he had worked hard in college and had arrived.  Had earned the title and money, and was now going to coast through his career.  He was about 25.  Not sure how that worked out for him.

but, he wasn't lying.  I worked circles around him.

Sounds like a douche.

Most engineers from UT-Austin aren't white guys that wear boots, most are from Asian countries and are very hard workers. Of course I say that as a Texas engineer who is a white guy that wears boots.  But I promise I never put them on my desk.  That would be rude.

Anyway, it's kind of surprising that y'all mention Notre Dame as carrying weight as a degree.  I guess it's regional, because that is not at all the case down here in Texico.  A degree from ND wouldn't open any more doors here than would a degree from Ohio State or Minnesota or Virginia Tech or something.

he wasn't a bad guy to have a beer with after work, but being pared with him on a project meant you'd be doing all the work which is obviously a douche move.

I never worked on one of his projects so my opinion of him wasn't terrible.

I googled best grad schools in chemistry, and the ranking is pretty close to that for "best schools" period.

Best Chemistry Programs - Top Science Schools - US News Rankings

I don't attach much faith to these rankings but I'd guess the ones at the top are in fact quite good.

If you rank according to subdiscipline, you can get quite a different result.  Purdue for example is #1 for analytical chemistry.

The wife told me she "heard" that Kirkland vodka is really good.  So we drove to the Costco not so near us that sells liquor and obtained same.  It's $18 for a 1.5 L, Grey Goose is well into the $40s, $45 I think.  So, I break it out last night, shake it with ice and pour it for us, and she thought it was in fact quite good, and she won't touch anything but GG.  I like GG but find Tito's is good, I'd rate Kirkland better than Tito's, and it's cheaper, here.

It's very smooth, no evidence for cogeners I could detect, a hint of a fruity taste, clean finish.

I also got some Kirkland Tennessee bourbon and Scotch to try one of these days.

Kirkland now has box chardonnay as well, 3 L for $13, it's "OK", quaffable but not transcendent.  Their California cab in a box is amazing.  They also have Kirkland Sonoma chardonnay in bottles for $13 and it is quite good at that price, nice balance.

I love Costco, own some stock, which has done well.

Kirkland has both American and French vodka... Both are reportedly wonderful. Which did you end up with?

I don't drink much vodka, but I think we have bottles of both (I bought one when I hadn't realized we'd just bought one lol). But I'm not a vodka connoisseur, and only really drink it in a bloody mary, and the wife only in a Moscow mule, so we're not sipping vodka over ice.

I'll have to look for the boxed Chardonnay though... My wife liked the boxed Pinot Grigio, but she's more of a Chardonnay girl. Is it buttery or clean?

Our vodka doesn't have French on it that I saw.

The box chardonnay is a bit flabby in my view, not overly buttery, but not crisp either.  Their Sonoma "Signature" is much better, at 3x the price though.  Both are $13 here, but the box has 3 L and the bottle is the standard 750.  If I tasted this blind, I'd be impressed if it was less than $30.

The only wine I find I dislike, aside from cheap wine, is NZ sauvignon blanc, and I like good sau blanc a lot.  It's good with steak oddly enough.

Vodka is an intentionally neutral spirit.  I find vodka snobbery to be... curious.

I once did until a friend had me do a blind taste test.  Cheap vodka is awful.

The Kirkland is cheaper than Tito's and arguably is better.  Works for me.
