Mary Mac's is a decent place, it's just not "the best".  The Varsity is the place that is way over rated.  One of the top rated places in town is called "The Gunshow", I've tried several times to get a reservation.  I have not been to any of the top ten on this list.

We go to this place pretty often for lunch after a Costco run.  It's set in a garden right on the river and the food is good.  Our problem is we can walk to probably 100 different places and it's hard to think about driving somewhere.

Their prices are great, anything of that ilk would be 30-100% higher here.  Dry aged porterhouse at STK near us is $110.

Bones doesn't even list their prices.

they always have 2 or 3 steak options that are "off the menu"  60+ day dry aged prime that are large

I had the 26 oz porterhouse a week ago - had to be one of the top 10 steaks in my lifetime

simply amazing

the Benny Weiker @ 51.99
16-18 oz. of well aged tenderloin

is their signature steak, used to be "off the menu" but is on the menu after COVID

I'm not a tenderloin guy, but it's something to try

If I get out that way I would give them a try.  Steak places here are insane on pricing.  STK had a pretty good happy hour gig, other than that, you're looking at $250 a couple, and I imagine Bones is pricier.

I had a wine locker at Eddie Merlots that really helped keep prices down.

$150 a couple should do it here

they have a decent wine selection for this part of the country.  They have a couple Cali selections bottled with the Archie's label.  I haven't tried them.

They've added the CAYMUS SCHOONER MALBEC, but probably not my suggestion.

I'd guess you could find something to wash down the meal

Looked at their wine list, it's not what I'd call special, but sufficient.  A lot of upscale places like to feature high end wine for status, and of course folks on expense accounts will buy them.

We went to a Costco liquor store today, I heard the Kirkland vodka is really good.  They had some Scotch that was $8,000 a bottle, the cashier said they had something that was double that once, he said folks bought them as collector's items.

One great thing about France is the wines are not marked up much at all in good restaurants.  In the US, they are at least double retail, and triple what they pay for them.

I'm not one to buy some high priced wine because I want to impress anyone.  I was looking at the STK wine list, they have Decoy cab, which is $17 in Costco, for $60.  Insignia is $450, that is really good wine, but it's $200 in Costco.  Chandon Brut Rose, holy cow, $105 per bottle, it's $18 in Costco.  I am disliking that place.

Going to OBX on Saturday. I've never been (at least not since I was a little kid). Any tips? Things I should see or restaurants I should get food from.

Next weekend we're going to Mastro's Ocean Club to celebrate my promotion.

I generally don't go to many steakhouses. I make a mean steak at home, and when you add up the cost of the steak, the sides, the wine/beer/etc, it doesn't normally justify it. Adding in the booze, we're usually at >>>$200 for a couple at Mastro's, and that's trying to keep our wine selection on the cheap side of the spectrum. Whereas even with steak from our specialty butcher and pulling out a bottle of our really nice wine, we're around $100. You can easily spend a LOT more money too. I had a work dinner there once (splurge from our distributor due to the ridiculous margin they made on a specific sale) where there were 6 of us and the bill was $1200...

I may go counter to trend and get a seafood dish, because they have amazing seafood, but I might just go ahead and get their ribeye as usual.

I'd have the seafood at a place named the Ocean club that close to the coast

If you guys are paying $150-250 for a steak dinner, I'll go ahead and start a gofundme and you can just spread the wealth this way.
