I was pretty lucky in Madison. Sure, there were some "book guys" and resentful "research guys", but most of my professors were actually good engineers and teachers.

Many of them even held the P.E. license, which I believe is pretty rare.
Researchers are always tricky. Part of the reason my math career came to an end as a particularly research heavy calculus teacher. Either that or calculus three really was mostly about infinite dimension calculus

We had a professor at UNC, little German guy, pretty famous, named Eliel.  He was the "Big Gun" in the department, but far.  And also consistently voted best teacher by the undergrads, who had no idea who he was.

I never had him for a class, we didn't take that many classes anyway, but he was on my committee (of five).

He didn't nail me in my orals at least.

Orals could end badly, and often did.

Our TA for multivariate calc at Purdue sounded exactly like Stephen Hawking's computer when he spoke...

We had a 12 year old in that class. He had his mom drop him off and pick him after class.

I took all the pre-req classes at the community college I often talk about here. Small classes, great teachers.

The DiffEQ guy was out of his gourd smart but he was pretty cool.

My DiffEQ prof was a wacky old professor type.  Really great teacher, but sometimes just forgot to come to class to teach.

I took DiffEq, is was the fourth quarter of calculus, and the professor's son was in the class.

The son was 15.

I don't remember much of anything of calculus.

My legs are barking a bit this evening.  I'm going to treat with wine.

I've been rereading the Hornblower series.  It's 70°F right now, headed to the deck, might get chilled.

High of 80 today, cloudy and cool breeze.  Decent rain.  Pretty much unheard of for Austin on July 9th.

It's broke 90 one time this year... that'll change, no doubt, but it's unheard of otherwise.

Elsa passed through yesterday, and has a bit more of a blower than anyone expected.  Maybe 30mph gust and sustained 10 perhaps, but its only the second July storm I can recall.

I'm not complaining.  Super easy year so far.

Went running in the humidity. This was not ideal.

Yup, I'm not sure we've broken 100 this year at all, if so it was only briefly on one day.  Normally we'd have had a dozen 100+ days by now.

I have no doubt it's coming.
