There are many different views on that monument. Some people believe it's white supremist. Others believe it was to honor those who took up arms against the Federal government in an effort to preserve the rights of states. And then there is a lot in between.
I mean, there is a factual view, which is that they fought against America to preserve their right to buy, sell, and rape black people. It's shameful at it's core, and really, not much different than Nazi Germany. I could hang a swastika flag and say I'm just big on German pride.

So, would that make those who defeated them, heroes?

This does work against something Cincy mentioned, that you can teach history as "just the facts." Becuase a lot of folks push that thing, and it leaves out a sort of crucial fact and tries to sand blast away another. In a sense, it's an effort to erase history, which was sort of ironically a complaint about removing some of those things.

Anyway, making the monument was bandied about for a few decades and only finally got going fully in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Some things were going on then, maybe pushed sentiment. It is a nice reminder that participation trophy culture is far from new.

Yes!
Well, this is what I learned in History all the way back in 6th and 7th grade ( early 70s).

The teachers were crystal clear about the abhorrent deeds of those who were involved in years of slavery, and how its effects continue.

so why now do we need to change those teachings to make it clear all white people were in on it when so many died to stop it?

why are you taking issue with him and not sticking to the subject

point is folks on both sides of the isle will not tolerate school children being taught in this fashion

it matters not what you yourself believe rest assured the majority of the American people dont want CRT and are doing things to stop it
There's no set subject. I was curious about the man's line of thinking. I understand the context better now.

As for the old CRT, still feels like a boogeyman being used to offend people, and offended people are working hard to cancel it. I have no great interest in it being taught in schools (to be honest, it seems the definition of it shifts depending on how upset one is by it), but the firepower being brought to crush this particular form of speech is interesting.

Well of course it is a hypothetical scenario. I don't even have kids. But if I did, I would pattern my reaction to this after what you would expect from a black guy who witnessed a teacher calling his son the N-word.
Yeah, the consequences would obviously suck. I'd have to do it in a manner where I was unlikely to get caught.
Ah, OK.

Seems so hypocritical and disingenuous for you to say this.

public policy is being loudly and openly debated. Voices are being heard.  To my knowledge no voice in favor of CRT is being canceled or suppressed. In fact- it seems that those who do not want this taught to their children are often being canceled or called Racist.  So what are you talking about?
Clearly your views are more closely aligned with the left to far left. Their playbook has been cancel and suppress opposing views, or pull the racist card- for a long time.  That is blatantly obvious.  You should be very comfy with it now.

Talk about boogeymen...

There was, perhaps, a time when someone might hang the Confederate Battle Flag as a sign of regional pride, or something.  Today, I think anyone who does that outside a museum is trying to send a message, a clear one.  I cannot think of another reason to display it today.  imagery counts.  If I see one, I am justified in making an assessment about the individual displaying it.

There used to be a barn just off I-71 north of Cincy that had it on its roof.

I don't see them around here for some reason.  I see a LOT of "gay flags" though.

I think what was done to the Natives of this land is probably "our" biggest sin.

I also think what is commonly overlooked is who exactly was selling slaves to be brought here. Had there been no supply, there would not be a market.

History.

Going to war over business interests would be on the top ten list IMHO.  Banana Wars, wag the dog wars, the Mexican conflict, the war with Spain, a lot of wars.

But the native Americans were badly mistreated repeatedly, no doubt, and were viewed as subhuman of course.  And most today live in difficult circumstances.

FORT WORTH, Texas - At a time when gender pronouns and gender identity are in the forefront, a North Texas university is updating its language.

TCU will now call freshman, first-year students, in an effort to be more gender inclusive.

Germany hasn't f'd around as much as we have. It's largely illegal to celebrate their shameful historical acts.
You mean the gassing of 6M Jews?
They won't let me give blood anymore. The burnt orange color scares the hell out of the doctors.
