so youre saying the police have another agenda to being able to violate ones rights and the dogs are just a way to search a car

when there really isnt any reason
I'm saying police often want broad leeway to dig into things. In theory our constitution creates a slightly higher bar, in practice, less so. It's the same reason both acting nervous and acting too calm can be cause for something in justifying a search or whatnot.

cities pay big bucks all the time cause a cop violated the rights of a driver or passenger

i guess the only protection you have is to get a smart phone and record and encounter

Was reading an interesting article about drug dogs, basically that they're extremely ineffective in accurately detecting drugs. But they are very effective at indicating drugs are present, which allows them to function as probable cause on four legs. That in turn can cause some issues for innocent people.
I recall debarking from a cruise ship years back, a dog was sniffing through a long line of luggage, a hundred people or more, he sat down next to the bag of a person behind me and looked at his handler, but he didn't do that for the 30 or so in front of us.  Something triggered his reaction to that specific bag, he had his head down sniffing, he didn't look at his handler at all.

I imagine we've all had dogs do this to our luggage in line, they usually go the entire way without any signal to investigate.  Of course, when standing in line for reentry to the US, your "rights" are limited.

in other news.......... this didn't belong on the COVID thread

LONDON (AP) — British, European and American diplomats and donors have voiced serious concerns about how the World Health Organization handled sex abuse allegations involving its own staff during an outbreak of Ebola in Congo, as reported this week by The Associated Press.

On Tuesday, the AP published an investigation documenting that senior WHO management was informed of multiple sex abuse allegations involving at least two of its doctors during the epidemic in 2018.

A notarized contract obtained by the AP showed that two WHO staffers signed off on an agreement between WHO’s Dr. Jean-Paul Ngandu and a young woman he allegedly impregnated in Congo. In it, Ngandu promised to pay the young woman money, cover her pregnancy costs and buy her a plot of land. The contract was made “to protect the integrity and reputation of the organization,” Ngandu said.

“The U.K. has a zero tolerance approach when it comes to sexual exploitation and harassment — and that extends to all international organizations that we fund,” said Simon Manley, the U.K.’s ambassador to the U.N. in Geneva. “We are speaking with WHO and other major donors as a matter of urgency to establish the facts.” Britain is WHO’s second biggest donor, after the U.S.

The U.S. State Department had no immediate comment.

They pulled the guy out of line and took him away.  No denouement.  But the dog was at least selective, and the cruise had been to Jamaica.

This is just not the same as someone being pulled over for no apparent reason and told by  the officer he can smell weed

If there is a lot of this kind of thing going on it needs to stop

not sure how much is a lot, but vehicles with Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesooota, Mizzery, Kansas plates coming back from a visit to Colorado are sometimes pulled over for speeding ( 5 over) and told there is the aroma of weed for a search

I don't think anyone can dispute that the best form of government is a perfectly beneficent and perfectly omniscient dictator.

Of course, that form of government doesn't exist and never will.
Oh,King eh?Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government!  Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some... farcical aquatic ceremony!

You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!! I mean, if I went 'round, saying I was an emperor, just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!
