I'll play SuperLotto and/or Megamillions when they get ridiculously huge, so maybe a couple of times per year, if that often.  It's worth the quick thrill for minimal investment.

And ya never know, eventually SOMEBODY wins it... :)

For those who can spare a few bucks, it's fine, entertainment.  For those who can't it's a tax on the poor.  But when we didn't have it, the Mafia benefitted.

I often muse if I won say $10 million it wouldn't change much in my life.  I'd give most of it away.

I'm pretty sure, but couldn't prove it to them.

Someone did, I'm real sure of that.  Just couldn't pin it on them.

It happened as one bank was purchased by another bank.  During the merger.
After the merger I get my "new" account statement and PooF!
Even if you lawyer up and win you lose unless they could be forced to cover your attorney fees.Like when the IRS fined me $600.00 for a 35 dollar share I didn't know I had - that is now wrth 17.00.But AIG gets bailed out and Cyber Security firms walk away with 1.8 billion on systems that failed. They get the gold mine and we get the shaft :character0029:

Cincydawg- do you know anything about Brunswick, GA? My brother just got a piece of property there under contract, going to head out there in a couple of weeks to see it.

A little, not much, I took the wife to Jekyll Island a few years ago and we walked around Brunswick one day, found a great restaurant.

I'd call it a bit sleepy aside from tourists like me.

Jekyll is nice.  St. Simon's Island is nice.

Brunswick is inland, about ten miles or so, from the beach.  It's more industrial than beachy, that area has a lot of paper mills.

Ahhh, I must be thinking of the area. On goodly maps, the town is next to water, but I guess not the populated part.

The Marshes of Glynn
Sidney Lanier - 1842-1881

Glooms of the live-oaks, beautiful-braided and woven
With intricate shades of the vines that myriad-cloven
Clamber the forks of the multiform boughs,--
                        Emerald twilights,--
                        Virginal shy lights,
Wrought of the leaves to allure to the whisper of vows,
When lovers pace timidly down through the green colonnades
Of the dim sweet woods, of the dear dark woods,
Of the heavenly woods and glades,
That run to the radiant marginal sand-beach within
        The wide sea-marshes of Glynn;--
Beautiful glooms, soft dusks in the noon-day fire,--

All kinds of stuff (ie - people) fall through cracks and get screwed during a transfer of ownership - happened with my apartment complex.
The new ownership had no paperwork on me and assumed I was on a month-to-month thing.....didn't bother to you know - ask.  They were charging me all these fees and stuff and I show them my lease agreement then refund everything.

Both the old ownership and new were to blame.  Just sloppiness all around.  When it comes to stuff like that, it's almost always incompetence and not malice.  But it doesn't help you (or me) either way.

You drive over causeways to get to the barrier islands.  These pass through "famous" mashes, of Glynn.

I hope he's not downwind of the paper mill.

When in grad school, I rented a place on the "wrong side of the tracks" for $135 per month one bedroom, adequate for me.  The place went belly up, and the rent didn't change for three years.  Somebody bought it finally and the rent jumped just as I was leaving, this was a time of high inflation, so having no increase in rent was a godsend for me, I was earning about $5 K a year.

My last month the rent had jumped in two months to $205 a month, which was still a good deal relatively speaking.

Now my HOA is nearly a grand a month.
