What type of Laptop Computer is the best bang for your buck?

I don't need all the bells and whistles that double the price, but I don't want some cheap piece of junk either.

Dells seem to work great up until a certain point, at which time everything just kinda goes to Hell all at once.
I just go and get a $600 one that isn't garbage.  All I use it for is internet and (now) file storage.  The last one lasted me 8-9 years.  This one can fold all the way flat and act as a tablet (which I almost never use).  But the touchscreen in either tablet or laptop function is handy at certain times.

Due to inflation, maybe look in the $750 range.  I have an Acer now.  I couldn't tell you what the previous one was.  I just look for a certain price range and have some worker-bee at the store assure me it's not a piece of junk.  Get whatever is cheapest and has the most recent processor chip in it maybe?

My obvious point is that 3 cents isn't going to make a material difference to a $2 lunch.  I didn't say anything remotely about some hypothetical perpetual growth, that came from nowhere.
I honestly think everyone would benefit if you just stopped reading my posts.  I'm unwilling to take the time to break everything down bit by bit, sorry.

Ive used Dell for years and buy their support package

Very few complaints

If you are using a laptop for hours each day you should replace it every 4 or 5 years

get fast CPM plenty of storage at least 16 gig of RAM and a SSD drive

I recently bought a new Dell for about $750.  It's really no better than my old Dell of 7.5 years, but I have a larger monitor now.

You'd be surprised at the last one, too, though.  On the other side of the spectrum, we have students who barely ever show up.  It's kind of hard to teach someone who isn't present.
Even in this online environment.....I have families that CHOSE online learning who can't wake up their kid and set them in front of the computer.  It's a special kind of lazy.
I feel for the ones with jobs relying on some unreliable family member to do it.  Or the ones with unholy-awful internet service, etc.  Those are numerous and real, but so are the ones who can't be bothered to even do the bare minimum.

I recently got a letter from the Social Security folks that my "benefit" had been uprated ($26) and it had a two page item about how I could contest this if I wanted.

Our grandkids in France had remote learning yesterday for the first time as the shut down just started.  The national system was down, nobody could log onto anything.

The Braves have started out 0-4.

back in the day, the school would send someone to the house looking for the child or the parent if the child didn't show at school

does that still happen?

It's very nice to hang onto a computer long enough so that when you need to replace the battery, they're cheap.

We call.  Home visits do occur.  But basically after 10 consecutive days, they're simply dropped.  They have to re-enroll after that.
