Building what became a large city below sea level on a massive river near the ocean is dumb.  Re-building it in the same place is a special kind of stupid.

Nah, New Orleans is awesome.  An incredible melting pot of culture, music, food.

Laissez les bons temps rouler!

It's not "everyone" it's just me. Well, and lh320 who expressed enthusiasm for the French Quarter.

847 certainly agrees with you, and has gone on at length about it in the past.

But you're both wrong because New Orleans is awesome.

I may have posted this before, but I walked away from a Million $ contract for design and construction services. I just did not believe that the city should be re-built.

The FQ is above sea level. That could have stayed as a vacation area.

Also, the Mississippi is being held in its current position, and has been for some time. It needs to be allowed to take its natural path - of which there have been 3-500 over time.

Counterpoint-- The French Quarter is not the only awesome part of New Orleans, and so the rest must remain as well.

:)

And I'm not ACTUALLY disagreeing with the general premise that building (and then rebuilding) a city below sea level is stupid-- it is.  I'm simply saying that New Orleans is awesome and therefore worth it.

Of course NOLA is awesome, but the 2 points are unrelated.

What's the purpose in pointing it out, then?

New Orleans is awesome.   Being a sinking crap-hole and the way that affects the culture and attitudes of the populace, is an important part of its charm.

I wouldn't change New Orleans for any reason.

I also wouldn't build a new city, in the year 2021, at or below sea level.

One thing should be made clear NO was not originally below sea level

This happened over time
