I love that the idea of a wall is going to turn back people driven away from their homeland and have walked 800 miles.  The balls you have to even suggest it is truly remarkable.

The sad part is- it seems that the overwhelming majority of American Citizens are in favor of LEGAL immigration.  But that gets discussed so rarely.

I wonder what it would take financially to invest in proactively helping and vetting those who want to do it and speeding up the process so well, that the “demand” for illegal crossings would go down to a manageable level.

A guy can dream....
Legal immigration at what annual limits? Current or higher than current?

Personally I think the best way to reduce illegal immigration is to create a guest worker program that is relatively easy to enter, doesn't create a path to citizenship on its own, and virtually unlimited in number. Tons of different ways to do it and make it trackable, so that you know where they're living, they have a unique identifier for employment so you know if they're remaining employed, and you can require all sorts of things like a quarterly in-person check-in to make sure they're physically still around (kinda like a parole officer, but I'd hate to use that term lol)...

This would ensure that the people that we actually want here for economic reasons can get in, which means that anyone who is trying to get in illegally is probably doing so for bad reasons, and it's a lot easier to focus on the illegal immigrants.

Seems like it would make most people who are in favor of legal immigration happy.

Ordered the second one. Love reading on the porch and love reading a good cookbook. Reading Momofuku right now and want to attempt the bahn mi recipe.
I do love some bahn mi. I did a pork belly bahn mi years ago with char siu marinade... I need to do that again. What I need is a recipe for the pickled carrot and daikon to really make it solid though.

I'd be mostly in favor this. How do you handle heath care and housing?

There's a place here that does a smoked brisket banh mi with pork pate'.  It's pretty freaking great.

Man, now I know what I want for lunch!

You guys are so far from the center that everyone else looks radically left.

For health care, the same way we do with Americans. There's an Obamacare mandate (that has no enforcement any more) that they have to have health insurance. I wouldn't offer them the subsidy that is offered to citizens though.

I don't know if perhaps you'd make them prove quarterly that they're maintaining insurance to stay within the guest worker program? Could work...

As for housing, that's their problem. I'd require them to have a valid address, but it's not something we'd be required to "handle" for them.

Of course if someone is coming in, they may have to be given a grace period (say 1 month) to find a job, to find housing, and to prove they get health insurance. Still better than how we do it now though.

I was wondering how long it would take for the dems to use this tragic event for their own political gain

how unfortunate for them it was not a white man

but they will still find a way to spin it

how also unfortunate for the dems that the Colorado shooter used a hand gun instead of what they call an assault weapon

I thought it was unfortunate for the 10 dead people.  But please, keep obsessing over the "bad people."

Well I think we agree again.  Here you have some nutball slaughtering innocent people- ruining countless lives.  That is beyond tragic.

but like clockwork- the talking heads are seizing the opportunity to make it about race- and openly condemn an entire race ( and in this case- the wrong one).
Can I assume that bothers you?
